About this file
This document is Appendix A of the Switzerland Park Project, containing detailed project tables for mine closure work. The project involves the closure of 34 mine features (adits, shafts, and stopes) at Switzerland Park through various closure methods including machine backfill, grated closures, bulkhead installation, and exclusion fencing. The work encompasses features with varying dimensions, depths ranging from 7 to 100+ feet, and rock lining throughout. Closure methods are categorized into several types: machine backfill closures (the majority of features), grated adit closures with bat ladder alternatives, steel grated shaft closures, corrugated steel pipe closures, rock bulkhead closures, and chain-link exclusion fencing. Key specifications include the installation of excelsior wattles for stormwater sediment control on 25 to 50 linear feet of downgradient sides for most features, and the removal of existing structures such as headframes, timbers, and fencing at specified locations. Three features (SP04, SP16, and SP23) require bat exclusion protocols prior to closure, involving three-day chicken wire coverings with specific measurements to allow bat escape while preventing re-entry.
The document provides detailed work descriptions for each feature identified by ID numbers (SP01 through SP34), including UTM coordinates in NAD83 format for site location, descriptions of mine openings by dimensions and depth, references to relevant specification sections and standard drawings, and site-specific notes regarding drainage, lining conditions, and additional work requirements. Special considerations include one feature (SP30) requiring CDOT permits as a contractor responsibility, and two features (SP33 and SP34) designated as needing bat reports prior to work commencement. The project prioritizes environmental protection through bat habitat preservation where applicable, using grated closures with bat ladder alternatives for features identified as potential bat habitat. Pricing terms, funding sources, contract timeline, and award information are not included in this appendix document.

Switzerland Park Project Table
Table 1 – Item 4.0 - Install Mine Closures
*Bat Exclusion Protocol:
The mine opening shall be covered for a minimum of three (3) days prior to the closure work starting with one-inch chicken wire. The chicken wire should cover the portal from the top to about 5-6” from the floor or bottom of the portal/entry. This will help prevent bats from entering the mine and allow any bats inside the mine prior to the exclusion effort, to escape from the mine before the closure operations.
If reclamation work is delayed after an exclusion was conducted, use a tarp to cover the opening until work can be re-started and completed. This will help prevent re-use by bats during the stopping of closure work.
