About this file
This document is an Investigative Procedures report prepared by Geoscience Group, Inc. for Building 42 Additions & Renovations (Geoscience Project No. CH09.0088.GE) located in Salisbury, NC.
The report details soil investigation and testing performed on the project site, including eight soil test borings (B-1 through B-8) drilled on November 13, 2009, by Soil Drilling Services. Soil sampling and penetration testing followed ASTM D 1586-84 standards, with samples obtained at standard intervals using a 1.4-inch I.D., 2-inch O.D. split-tube sampler. Standard Penetration Resistance (N-Value) measurements were recorded for the final 12 inches of each boring, with a 140-pound hammer falling 30 inches. Field samples were classified by an engineer and submitted to the laboratory for verification. Laboratory testing included moisture content analysis per ASTM D 2216-66, soil plasticity (Atterberg Limits) testing per ASTM D 423 and D 424 to determine Liquid and Plastic Limits, and compaction testing using the Standard Proctor method (ASTM D 698) to establish maximum dry density and optimum moisture content. The report also includes California Bearing Ratio (CBR) testing performed on compacted soil samples per ASTM D 1883, which measures soil strength and deflection characteristics correlated to pavement performance. Test results, including boring logs showing soil descriptions, penetration blow counts, and laboratory data from compaction and CBR tests, are presented on attached sheets for geotechnical design and construction guidance.
