About this file

This document is an Appendix containing geotechnical investigation data and technical drawings for the Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina.

The appendix includes five primary components: a Boring Location Diagram (Drawing No. CH09.0088.GE-1) showing approximate locations of 12 soil test borings and 1 offset boring at the site; a Soft Dig Location Diagram (Drawing No. CH09.0088.GE-2) depicting 18 soft dig locations; Generalized Subsurface Profiles (Drawing Nos. CH09.0088.GE-3 and GE-4) illustrating soil stratigraphy across the site; Investigative Procedures documentation; Test Boring Records; and Pressuremeter Test Plots. The investigative procedures section describes drilling methods performed to ASTM D 1586-84 standards, detailing soil sampling and Standard Penetration Testing (N-Value) protocols using a 140-pound hammer with 30-inch drops. Eleven soil test borings (B-1 through B-4 and B-101 through B-107) and one offset boring (B-1A) were drilled at specified locations. The pressuremeter investigation section explains the equipment apparatus, testing methodology, and general equations used for bearing capacity determination and settlement calculations based on Menard's Theory. Individual Test Boring Records provide depth-by-depth soil descriptions, elevation data, blow counts, and penetration resistance measurements for each boring location. Pressuremeter Test Plots display pressure-capacity and pressure-creep curves for select boring depths, presenting modulus and limit pressure values derived from field testing.
