****INTRODUCTION****
AOC-SUG, Washington DC 10/2021
Ever since the beginning of time man has been drawn to the shores of oceans around the world. It was not until his development of technical skills that he was able to bring the sound of water in motion to his environment away from the seas. He enabled himself to produce the sound of water in motion in structures he called fountains. Through fantasy and creativity, he has been able to produce water effects not found in nature. Utilizing the modern concepts of electric, electronic, and sophisticated mechanical technology, fountains can be produced to create the unimaginable, incredible center point and include the soothing quiet backgrounds.
Your "water theater", with all its integral systems, has been designed and manufactured to present the desired effect with a minimum of supervision. However, excellent performance can only endeavor if the proper care and maintenance is provided for. With this care, you will enjoy the many who will wonder with admiration at the beauty you have designed and created.
This manual has been designed and written to aid you in the understanding of the various systems and components and to help you operate your fountain in the most professional way.
Should any problems arise not described in the manual or if you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the factory.

SEE THE ENCLOSED LITERATURE on the PENTAIR THS Filtration System AND Automatic
Backwash Controller for PLAZA and REFLECTING POOL Systems along with TR140 for
CASCADE Filter System
Your filtration system is a large single tank automatic sand filter system and its backwash sequence is initiated and controlled by the backwash system controller on the wall to the right of the filter.
Initiation occurs with actions from:
AOC-SUG, Washington DC 10/2021
a) The PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL pressure switch set for a DELTA-P of 15 PSI
b) The manual backwash initiation feature on the FILTER AUTO BACKWASH system.
While backwashing, observe the quality of the backwash water in the sight glass going down the drain line to evaluate if a second backwash may needed or if the backwash can be canceled on the
Backwash Controller Panel.
INITIATE a manual back wash at least on a by-weekly basis!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
In order for the chemical feeder line to function it is imperative that the 6” choke valves:
PLAZA Fountain: (Valve #PFCH1) REFLECTING Pool (Valve #RFCH1) located between the 2 each 1” chemical system feed line valves:
PLAZA Fountain (Valves #PF CH1 & #DF CH3) REFLECTING Pool (Valves #RF CH1 & RF CH3) in the filter return line be closed to about 60% open as set during commissioning.
TO OPERATE THE CHEMICAL SYSTEMS VALVES:
With the filter pumps in operation set the following valves to the fully open position:
Plaza Fountain (Valves #PF CH1/ #PF CH3)
The chemical control system will then control the automatic chlorine adding valve:
Plaza Fountain (Valve #PF CH2)
REFLECTING POOL:
Reflecting Pool (Valves #RF CH1/ #RF CH3)
The chemical control system will then control the automatic chlorine adding valve:
Reflecting Pool (Valve #RF CH2)
CASCADE FOUNTAIN:
Cascade Fountain (Valves #CF CH1/ #CF CH3)
AOC-SUG, Washington DC 10/2021
The chemical control system will then control the automatic chlorine adding valve:
Cascade Fountain (Valve #CF CH2)

ALWAYS BRING ONLY THE REQUIRED AMOUNT OF CHEMICALS ON EVERY VISIT.
Then:
1) Close the inlet and outlet service valve located in front and after the dispenser.
2) Lose the air relief plug located in the top of the dispenser cover.
3) Verify no water is exiting the air relief plug remove plug and set aside.
4) Open the dispenser drain valve located near the floor on the side of the vessel.
5) Dilute the exiting water with water from a portable hose and move exiting water toward the sump pump area.
6) Once all water has drained open the dispenser (push done on the safety buckle and unscrew the security ring. Remove it and remove the cover ad set aside. Then,
7) With safety gloves and glasses on and in place open the chlorine container and charge the vacant space with chlorine tablets (1” or 3”) to within 2” of the top.
8) Inspect the dispenser lid gasket. Add liquid silicone for lubrication to the o-ring.
9) Close the dispenser.
10) Inspect the air relief plug. Add liquid silicone for lubrication of the miniature o-ring.
11) Open to 2 service valves before and after the chlorine vessel.
12) REMOVE UNUSED CHEMICALS FROM THE SPACE IMMEDIATELY!!
!!!!!!! NEVER STORE CHEMICALS IN THE PUMP
FOUNTAIN EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
Your system has been designed to be as maintenance free as possible, but the maintenance which is required must be done carefully & diligently.
Other than cleaning the INTAKE SCREENS there are no other maintenance items.
After the fourth week of operation, then once after two months after, inspect and tighten as necessary all wiring LOAD terminal screws in the control panels AND VFD POWER AND OUTPUT
TERMINALS.
For maximum life of your fountain equipment in the pump room all metal surfaces susceptible to corrosion must be kept sealed with paint. Inspect all metal surfaces periodically and repaint any places as needed.

FOUNTAIN WINTERIZATION
The season is almost upon us once again. It is NOW TIME to reflect on the fate of fountains for this time period. The best solution for exterior cold weather fountain operation in the northern half of the country is to close down the fountain for the season. Calm water freezes very early in the season and even agitated water will freeze at very low temperatures especially if water temperatures are below freezing and a power failure brings the flow to a stand still. But most of all your fountain can become a liability should ice from on walkways and other foot traffic surfaces.
The use of anti-freeze materials is not recommended and is hazardous to your health and to the environment.
During the freezing weather there is extreme risk of water freezing in pipes that will cause ruptures in the lines. Water expands approx. 9% in volume depending on the level of freezing temperatures. Not many materials can withstand the expansions of their respective volume properties by 9% - hence BUSTED PIPES. Fountain lights and pumps will also be damaged in the same manner.
Georgia Fountain Company recommends the following General Winterization Fountain Shut Down procedure to be followed prior to cold weather:
Change or adapt the following procedures to suit your specific project. The object is to devoid the piping system of water and secure and close the lines open to the pool.
Turn off the fountain controls to the OFF position using the appropriate switches. DO NOT turn off the main power switch. THE CONTROLS HAVE TO REMAIN OPERATIONAL FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. We also want to maintain the time clock and PLC computer functions or others.
Drain all the water from the pool(s). Leave all pool & bowl drain fittings and drain/or drain valves open. Secure your pool drain plugs to where they can be found come spring.
Purchase at your local plumbing supply house or hardware store (plumbing dept.) test plugs.
Remove the anti-vortex plates at the suction fittings on the floor of the lowest pool.
Inside the pump rooms remove all debris on the floor and inside the sumps. Using hosed water test the emergency sump pump. It is about to be used more then it ever does.
Open the pump strainers and main suction valves and leave them open. Monitor the sump pump’s progress in removing all drained water.
Remove the drain plug(s) on the bottom of the pump(s).
Remove the one drain plug at the bottom of the filter unit(s).
If a sand filter open the vessel drains.
Secure and remove ALL chemicals from the pump rooms. Avoid corrosion.
AOC-SUG, Washington DC 10/2021
Shut off the water supply line coming to the Systems from the building or elsewhere.
Open the hose-bibb located on the fill manifold and drain all water.
Using a large Shop VAC connect the hose to the outlet-side of the VAC so that air blows out of the hose. DO NOT USE AN AIR COMPRESSOR EVER. Insert the hose into the ALL lines (one at a time) on the pool floor. Blow all water out of the suction line (water will come out of the suction valve inside the station. (It may require inserting one of the test plugs in only one of the sumps at this time to prevent the air simply blowing out of the other sump).
Once all water has been drained from the suction lines, install the test plugs inside the suction sumps. Inspect to make sure the plugs are tight.
Shape & insert Styro-Foam blocks in suction sumps. Re-install the anti-vortex plates.
Same holds true for any NICHE mounted lights. Just fit styro-foam block inside the niches. Ice will squeeze the styro-foam and prevent fixture damage.
Clean the fountain pool(s) and pump rooms thoroughly to prevent debris and trash from entering or clogging the pump room drains and the emergency sump pump.
Keep the pool drain line(s) open to remove melting snow and ice but keep the drain lines covered with a screen to deter debris from clogging the drain openings.
Close all suction and discharge valves.
Make a detailed log of all items added or changed, opened or closed, so that for the spring re-start all the items removed or added opened or closed may be reversed again.
Inspect sump pump operation and close the station lid for the season. Make periodic inspections during the shut down period to make sure the sump pump is working.
