About this file
This document is a quick reference guide and technical specification sheet for the RF-3144TG triple band antenna, manufactured by L3Harris Technologies' Communication Systems division in Rochester, New York. The antenna is designed to cover multiple frequency ranges including VHF (30-88 MHz), UHF (118-174 MHz, 225-512 MHz, and 760-870 MHz), and L-band (1200-2600 MHz) frequencies. The antenna assembly includes a spring base and antenna element with a maximum weight of 4.5 kilograms (10.0 pounds) and an overall length of 1.96 meters (77.2 inches). The kit contents specify one complete antenna unit (available in green or tan coloring), one antenna whip, one spring base, one protective cap, and a mounting kit containing various bolts, nuts, washers, and hardware components to accommodate different platform requirements. The antenna requires no separate tuning and features a dipole design for UHF frequencies and a stacked dipole for L-band with end-fed monopole configuration for VHF.
The electrical specifications indicate VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) performance of 3.0:1 typical and 3.5:1 maximum for VHF frequencies, with performance data for UHF frequencies also provided. The document, published in June 2021 as Revision C, serves as a technical reference for installation and operational characteristics of this multi-band antenna system. No contract pricing, set-asides, funding information, or procurement timelines are detailed in this technical specification document.

TRIPLE BAND ANTENNA
QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
DESCRIPTION OF THE ANTENNA
The RF-3144TG is a triple band antenna covering the frequency ranges 30-88 MHz (VHF), 118-174 MHz (UHF), 225-512 MHz (UHF), 760-870 MHz (UHF) and 1200-2600 MHz (L-band). The UHF is a dipole, the L-band is a stacked dipole. Both are located in the upper portion of the whip for maximum range performance. The VHF is an end fed monopole with matching inside the antenna base. The antenna does not require any separate tuning.
The antenna (spring base + antenna element) weighs 4.5 kg (10.0 lbs max) with an overall length of 1.96 m (77.2”).

Checking The Vehicle Check that the antenna location is not obstructed by nearby conducting obstacles. The vehicle must have the correct hole pattern shown on page 4 of this manual. If the holes are not for 3/8 in bolts, appropriate bolts/washers/nuts must be obtained. The ground strap (8) shall be connected to the chassis or the turret. If no appropriate hole is available, a new hole must be drilled (1/4 in or 7mm diameter).
Mounting Tools 9/16 in wrench for the 3/8 in bolts. Optional 36mm or adjustable wrench for securing the antenna whip.
Fitting The Antenna Base The ground strap is first attached to the base with a M6 stud/nut/washer. Fit the O-ring to the bottom of the base and pull the ground strap through the mounting hole in the vehicle. Afterwards secure the antenna base with either the 3/8”-24 x 2” bolts or 3/8”- 16 x 2.5” bolts, washers and nuts as appropriate.
Electrical Connection The ground strap is connected to the chassis with an appropriate bolt, nut and washer.
Ensure that the conductivity from ground strap to vehicle is good. Connect the VHF, UHF and L-band coaxial cables to the marked connectors.
Fitting the Antenna Remove the protective cap from the top of the base. Screw the antenna whip onto the spring base and tighten securely by hand. If the antenna will encounter extreme vibration, a 36 mm (or adjustable) wrench can be used tighten the whip. A M5x5 (0.8 mm pitch) set screw (not supplied) can also be used to secure the whip to the base in more permanent installations, but this is normally not used.
MAINTENANCE
No regular preventive maintenance is required. Ensure that all connector interfaces are kept clean and free from contaminants. The antenna whip (1) and spring base (2) are available as spare parts.
TROUBLESHOOTING, VHF, UHF AND L-BAND
If trouble is suspected, measure the resistance across the coaxial connector at the base (with antenna attached). The resistance for the VHF port shall be between 0 and 1 ohms, and infinite for the UHF and L-band ports.
If a VSWR meter is available, measure the VSWR of the complete antenna at all ports.
This should be below 3.5:1 (35% reflected power), but can in some installations be slightly higher depending on surrounding objects to the antenna.
