About this file
This document is a Stormwater Drainage Report for a soccer field construction project at the U.S. Embassy in Asunción, Paraguay. The report details stormwater drainage design requirements based on the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and provides specific technical guidelines for drainage system implementation. Key provisions include redirecting rainwater to approved disposal locations, sizing drainage pipes based on rain catchment area and local rainfall rates, and maintaining minimum slopes to ensure efficient water flow.
The document specifies that for a 100 mm (4-inch) diameter pipe, a minimum slope of 1% is recommended to allow adequate water movement and prevent sediment buildup. Since Paraguay lacks its own stormwater drainage regulation, the report adopts Brazilian municipal drainage standards. The drainage plan includes perforated PVC pipes with varying slopes (0.5% for filtering pipes beneath grass, 1% for the register network), and multiple inspection points to manage stormwater runoff effectively. The design aims to prevent flooding, protect structures, and ensure safe water management for the soccer field at the embassy compound.

Architectural and Engineering (A/E) Design Services for the construction of a soccer field at the U.S. Embassy in Asuncion, Paraguay.
Stormwater Drainage Report
Location:
Embassy of the United States of America, Asunción, Paraguay
Asuncion, Paraguay
INTRODUCTION
The International Plumbing Code (IPC) establishes essential guidelines to ensure the safety and efficiency of plumbing systems, specifically in the protection of wastewater and stormwater through backflow control and overflow prevention. The OBO ordinance reinforces these objectives by defining specific standards for protection against contamination risks and structural failures in the drainage and irrigation system.
Given the frequent use of the soccer field, this report aims to provide practical observations and recommendations to optimize the functionality of the irrigation and drainage system in accordance with IPC guidelines and OBO provisions, ensuring both performance and the sanitary and environmental safety of the facility.
INTERNATIONAL PLUMBING CODE (IPC)
According to the International Plumbing Code (IPC) adopted by various jurisdictions, rainwater must be redirected to an authorized disposal location that prevents flooding and contamination of other water sources (https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/IPC2018/chapter- 11-storm-drainage).
The International Plumbing Code (IPC) establishes several important provisions for the design and installation of rainwater drainage systems. These include:
● Stormwater Drainage: The IPC regulates the handling and disposal of rainwater from roofs, patios, and other surfaces, requiring that it be redirected to approved disposal locations, such as collection systems or public drainage.
● Sizing and Diameters: According to the IPC, the size of drainage pipes must be calculated based on the rain catchment area and local rainfall rate, ensuring the system can handle the water volume without overflowing.
● Minimum Slopes: Drainage pipes must be installed with a specific minimum slope to ensure efficient flow of rainwater, thus avoiding accumulations or blockages in the system. The minimum slope generally varies according to the pipe diameter.
These standards aim to prevent flooding, protect structures, and ensure that rainwater is managed safely in residential and commercial areas.
For a 100 mm (4-inch) diameter pipe intended for wastewater or rainwater drainage, the IPC typically recommends a minimum slope of 1% (1 cm per meter) to ensure adequate flow. This slope is sufficient to allow water movement and prevent sediment buildup within the pipe, reducing the risk of blockages.
In certain cases, such as low-capacity systems or those with low pressure, it may be necessary to adjust this slope to a greater angle (e.g., 2%) to improve system efficiency.

THERE IS NO PARAGUAYAN STORMWATER DRAINAGE REGULATION
In Paraguay, the stormwater drainage standard used is the Brazilian regulation from Brazil’s Municipal Plan for Drainage and Stormwater Management, which standardizes the necessary parameters for the sizing and construction of drainage systems in urban areas to prevent flooding and manage stormwater safely and efficiently.
TABLE 3.2: VERTICAL STORMWATER CONDUCTORS
TABLE 3.3: HORIZONTAL PIPES - MAXIMUM AREA IN M² OF COVERAGE
DRAINED BY A STORMWATER CONDUCTOR
According to the influence area of the proposed field project, 10 cm or 100 mm pipes will be used, with drainage slopes of 0.5% for the filtering pipes beneath the grass, and 1% for the register network connected to the main drainage system.

Remarks
Dear Arch
We are pleased to present you with our comprehensive proposal for the automatic irrigation system in your project. We have designed a detailed plan covering all sectors of the project, divided into 5 irrigation zones efficiently managed from our advanced controller. Below, we summarize the key aspects of our proposal:
Project Scope:
Complete coverage for all project sectors according to the attached model.
Division into 5 distinct irrigation zones managed by a controller with automatic and manual capabilities. Budget:
It includes high quality materials, specialized labor, equipment transfer, commissioning and maintenance for a period of 1 month.
Execution Period:
It undertakes to conclude the work within 6 working days. Guarantee:
6 months warranty for equipment and accessories, subject to handling and maintenance carried out by our staff. It does not cover atmospheric phenomena, electrical discharges, floods or fluctuations of the electrical grid.
Modifications and Changes:
Any modifications or changes to the project will be quoted as additional work. Additional Requirements:
In case of requiring through pipes for electrical or hydraulic connections, the owner will be asked to provide the necessary infrastructure or coordinate a meeting with our technicians to see possible solutions and/or coordination of works. Payment Terms:
50% upon acceptance of the budget.
50% at the conclusion of the installation and commissioning of the irrigation system.
We are committed to excellence in the implementation of automatic irrigation systems and guarantee customer satisfaction. We remain available to discuss additional details, answer questions, or make adjustments based on your specific needs.
We appreciate your consideration and look forward to the opportunity to work together on this exciting project. Kind regards
