About this file
This document provides the design package for expanding the wireless infrastructure at the Columbia VA Medical Center. It outlines requirements for installing cabling and locating twenty-two Cisco AIR-CAP2702i-B-K9 access points across the first floor, as depicted on heat maps and placement maps. Cat5e cabling is required to terminate in the closet and connect to a biscuit jack no more than four feet from each access point. The local site must procure the access points and cabling and ensure installations meet technical specifications. Once installed, the new access points will connect to existing Cisco 5508 wireless LAN controllers, which may require additional licensing to support the new access points. The overall purpose is to expand wireless coverage for the new building expansion at the Columbia VA Medical Center to support its needs.

Activation INC1592685 - CMO- B101 Predictive Wireless Design Package
Purpose The Columbia VAMC has requested that the Enterprise Wireless Expansion Team expand the National Wireless Infrastructure into a new building. The purpose of this document is to provide the necessary components for the facility Information Technology staff and any party involved in the process of preparing the building for the installation of the Wireless Infrastructure, specifically pertaining to the location of the access points and the copper cabling to each access point. Included in this document are heat maps that are representations of the data coverage the wireless system will provide. The following sections will provide requirements that are to be met for the cabling to the access points. In this document, you will find documentation of exact locations for the access points to be placed so that the department/contractor completing the cabling will be able to determine where the cable needs to be installed. You will also find in this guide the pricing requirements that need to be submitted by the local VAMC for purchase of the hardware.

Licenses
The activation site has 4 – Cisco 5508 series Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) setup in a ‘N+1’ posture.
☒ The ‘N’ WLCs currently operate at less than 100% AP load. Any single controller can easily accommodate the addition of the required APs.
☐ The ‘N’ WLCs requires additional licensing to accommodate the required APs.
☐ Due to the number of APs and/or the circuit connecting this activation, additional WLCs will be required.
