About this file

This is a Scope of Work document from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) requesting laboratory services for alpha spectroscopy analysis on soil samples. The project involves analyzing soil samples collected from approximately 50 primary investigation locations and 5 background locations as part of a uranium and thorium contamination investigation. Two separate samples will be collected from each location, with one sample analyzed for radionuclides in the Uranium-238 decay chain (U-238, U-234, and Th-230) and the second sample analyzed for radionuclides in the Thorium-232 decay chain (Th-232 and Th-228). The total number of samples expected to be analyzed is approximately 110.

The laboratory services required include sample receipt and chain of custody documentation, alpha spectroscopy analysis to determine radionuclide concentrations, analytical reports and/or certificates of analysis, quality control documentation, and disposal of residual sample materials. All deliverables must be provided to IEMA-OHS. The scope of work does not specify response dates, due dates, site visits, bidders' meetings, award dates, or contract term details. No pricing terms, set-asides, incumbent information, funding amounts, or other financial parameters are outlined in this document.

Alpha Spectroscopy Laboratory Services – Scope of Work

Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) is requesting laboratory services to conduct alpha spectroscopy analysis on soil samples collected as part of a uranium and thorium contamination investigation. Two separate samples will be collected from approximately 50 locations involved in the investigation and approximately 5 background locations.

One sample from each location will be submitted to the laboratory for alpha spectroscopy analysis of radionuclides in the Uranium-238 decay chain; specifically, U-238, U-234, and Th-230. The second sample from each location will be submitted for alpha spectroscopy analysis of radionuclides in the Thorium-232 decay chain; specifically, Th-232 and Th-228.

The total number of samples expected to be analyzed for this project is approximately 110.

Laboratory services required:

· Sample receipt/chain of custody documentation provided to IEMA-OHS

· Sample analysis – alpha spectroscopy analysis to determine the concentration of radionuclides discussed above.

· Analytical report and/or certificate of analysis provided to IEMA-OHS

· Quality Control documentation provided to IEMA-OHS

· Disposal of residual sample materials
