About this file

The Office of Water Resources is soliciting bids for the rental of an overhead crane and crane operator to perform pick and place operations at the Algonquin Dam in Algonquin, Illinois. The project requires a crane capable of placing approximately 9 concrete blocks (2'x2'x6') in the dam's gate bay, with each block weighing up to 3,800 pounds and requiring a crane reach of 85 feet. The crane will also assist in replacing a damaged bladder, lifting steel gate panels, and removing and placing a new rubber bladder in the gate bay area. The crane and operator will be needed for one 40-hour week, with anticipated operations during the week of October 20th.

The bid requires the vendor to provide product literature, technical data, specifications, capacities, and range diagrams to verify the crane's capabilities. The crane operator must be certified in Illinois and possess all necessary endorsements and licenses. The gate opening for the fenced area is 18 feet wide, with fence panels removable if needed. The dam gate apron is 50 feet wide, but a crane reach greater than 50 feet is necessary due to buildings and obstructions. Shipping costs should be included in the bid, and the product must be new, unused, and free from defects. The solicitation allows for "or equal" submissions, with the burden of proof for equivalence resting on the bidder.
