Dixie National Forest Terry Shoal Creek Fence Construction

RFQ #AG-84N8-S-10-0094

Amendment A – Specifications Page 1 of 3

Terry Shoal Creek/Bull Valley Fence Specifications

1. Materials to be Furnished

A. Forest Service

The forest service will furnish all steel fence posts, barb wire; brace wire, clips, net wire for rock basket corners and EZ Braces (if needed) and a project inspector. The materials are located at Forest Service facilities in Enterprise, Utah.

B. The Contractor

The Contractor will provide labor, transportation of fence materials from Enterprise, chainsaws and hands tools necessary for fencing work to complete this project. The contractor will also supply approximately 2,640 native Juniper wood fence stays (2-3 inch diameter) for all segments of this fence bid. The native Juniper stays can be cut near (within 0.5 mile) the fence construction site.

2. Fence Construction Details

A. Fencing Segments The approximate 5 mile fence begins at the cattleguard on FR003 near Dad’s Spring and continues southwest by Gutz Peak and ends on the BLM Boundary fence. In Park Canyon the fence is adjacent to FR road 003 for 200 yards. The rest of the fence is not accessable by motor vehicle. All fence materials (wire, posts, clips) will need to be hauled in via horseback, foot or helicopter at an approximate 2 miles distance by the contractor. Occasional steel posts in the old fence line may be used.

Approximate materials that will need to be transported in by contractor:

· 1320 Steel Posts (5.5 feet long)

· 80 Rolls of Barbed Wire

· Native Material Juniper Posts for Braces (can be cut on-site)

· Miscellaneous fence supplies (clips, staples for braces, brace wire, net wire for rock basket corners etc)

B. Clearing and Old Fence Removal

The terrain is through sagebrush, mixed brush, Gambel oak, and Pinyon-Juniper with steep slopes and the closest access by vehicle is FR003 known as the Collie Flat Road. Clearing through Pinyon/Juniper and shrubs and old fence removal will be completed by the ranchers. Vegetation must be removed from the fence line with NO GRADING of the surface. No road construction is permitted.

The fence will be installed as close as possible (within 10 feet) to existing fence line except when noted by project inspector.

C. Posts

Posts will be one rod (16.5 feet) in distance between each post and set at a preferred height of 45 to 50 inches. All metal posts are to be set so the spade is completely below ground.

D. Braces

Braces will be constructed each quarter mile, at each change in fence alignment, or significant slope change and major drainage crossings. USFS EZ Braces will be available for use by contractor if they desire to haul these into the site in lieu of using native Juniper posts brace material or rock baskets.

The project inspector will provide final guidance on brace locations.

E. Wire

The fence will be 4-line barbed wire with the following height requirements.

4 wire fence
Distance from the Ground
Top Wire
42 inches
Third Up
32 inches
Second Up
23 inches
Bottom Wire
14 inches

All line wire will dead-end at corner, angle and/or line braces.

F. Fence Stays

All (approximately 2,640) native Juniper wood stays (2-3 inch diameter) will be provided by the contractor. Two wood stays will be equally spaced between every set (one rod) of fence post. The native Juniper stays can be cut near (within 0.5 mile) the fence construction site.

G. Fasteners

For metal fence posts the fence clips will be snug and secure.
