PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Work for this project consists of transporting and installing six (6) handicap accessible fishing piers at various lakes throughout the Rio Grande National Forest. All fishing piers are stored at the Monte Vista Administration Site and shall be transported and installed according to the manufacturer’s requirements. In addition to this, accessible trails shall be constructed from parking areas at each location to the gangway for each pier. A total of approximately 500 feet of trails will be constructed. Trail construction shall consist of excavating 6 inches of topsoil for a 48 inch wide trail, compacting the trail bed, placing 3/8 inch minus gravel and compacting the material. Brush clearing on all trails will be incidental. All trails must closely adhere to both American Disability Act (ADA) and Forest Service Trail Accessibility Guideline (FSTAG) regulations. All trail centerlines will be staked by Forest Service officials prior to construction. Five (5) precast concrete wheel stops shall be installed at various locations along with accessible parking signs. One (1) loading zone sign will be installed in addition to the other signs.
1.2 LOCATION
A. This project is located at six different popular fishing locations throughout the forest.
On the Conejos Peak District, Mix Lake and Spectacle Lake will be part of this project, and on the Divide District, Alberta Park Reservoir, Big Meadows Reservoir, Road Canyon Reservoir, and Shaw Reservoir will be part of the project. Location maps to all six locations are included in the contract drawings. The fishing piers are stored at the Monte Vista Administration Site: 291 County Road 26, Monte Vista, CO 81144.

B. In-depth soil surveys have not been performed; however, rocks at the ground surface are evident throughout the area. The Contractor should expect to encounter such rock during excavation and grubbing operations. Blasting of rocks will not be permitted without authorization by the Contracting Officer (CO).
01010 - 2
C. In-depth water table surveys have not been performed; however, if water is encountered during excavation, the Contractor shall perform adequate dewatering to keep the excavation free from water and dispose of the water without damage to property.
