SILVICULTURAL SUMMARY PRESCRIPTION

Stand Description Sub-item No: 2.1 FACTS ID: A2104000003 Acres: 14 Stand No: 621-04-003 Sale name &# Johnson Assortment #3 Location: Johnson Cr. Rd. #278 Legal: T55N,R2E,Sec 13 Elevation range: 3600-3800 Avg. Slope: 30 Mgmt. Area: TIMBR Avg. Stand Age: 21 Avg. Aspect: NE Habitat Type: 574 Avg. Tree Height: 15 Funding: WRFH05/WRFH06 FY Planned: 2010 Access: Drivable on road #278 and road #2710 Existing Stocking: 4600T/A (+/- 10%) Does not include WP or hardwoods.

Existing Species Composition T/A:

GF-3700 LP-285 WL-271 DF-215 C-88 WP-48

Silvicultural Goal and Desired Condition: The silvicultural objective here is to increase the health and vigor of the selected crop trees, favoring WL, DF and WP, to meet the desired target stand condition of 50% WL/DF and 50% other species.

Desired Species Composition T/A:

WL-157 GF-57 C-42 LP-28 DF-29 Prunable WP-40

Crop tree Selection Criteria: WL that are at least 75% of the height of the dominant trees shall be the primary crop trees. Crop trees must have at least a 40% crown ratio and be healthy, vigorous trees, free of defect or damage from physical or mechanical causes. Select additional crop trees that meet the selection criteria to achieve the range of acceptable stocking.

Acceptable Stocking Range: Min: 250T/A Max: 350T/A

Average Spacing: 12x12 Spacing Variance: 33%

Species Preference: WL, LP, ES, C, DF, WH,GF

Hardwood Trees to be cut: All species, except aspen, that are overtopping, up to the maximum dbh cut limit.

Trees to Ignore (not to be cut): WP, aspen and all overstory trees exceeding the maximum DBH cut limit.

Maximum Tree Diameter at DBH to Cut: 6.9”

Maximum Stump Height: 8”

Minimum Tree Height to Cut: 24”

Insect, Disease and Animal Damage: DF and GF showing signs of root disease such as thin chlorotic (Yellowing) crowns shall not be selected as crop trees.

Girdling: WL overstory within the unit or along the boundary edge heavily infected with mistletoe on over 2/3's of the crown, (a Hawksworth rating of 5 or more), shall be girdled to reduce the spread to the young WL. Girdling shall be a band deep and wide enough to ensure the death of the tree. Generally this is determined to be a minimum of 4” wide removing the cambium layer completely around the circumference of the tree.

White Pine Pruning: WP selected for pruning, shall be a minimum of 8 feet in height, free of blister rust on the bole and have no branch infections closer than 6 inches to the bole. Trees shall be pruned of all branches up to 50% of the height of the tree to a maximum height of 8’. All branches shall be cut to within ½” of the limb collar. Pruning shall be done with hand pruning shears, loppers or handsaws.

Slash Treatment: Keep slash depths below 2 feet. Where average slash depths exceed this level, lopping will be required to bring it down to 2 feet. Pull all slash created along road 2710 back 10 feet from the top of the cutbank.

Special Treatment Areas: None

Salvage: None allowed

Other Desired Contract Results or Requirements: The allowable number of category “C” trees are: C1, C2, C3, and C7 all together – 20 trees/acre; C4 – 20 trees/acre; C5 – none.
