Questions and Answers:

Question: What kind of siding (Grade/Type) is specified for the replacement siding?

Answer: Replace with composite engineered wood lap siding (Reference Sheet 4 of 13 and

Sheet 6 of 13 on the Drawings). Contractor to provide color samples for color selection by the

Forest Service.

Question: Why are the windows coming out?

Answer: There is potential water damage from the heavy rains.

Question: Do all of the windows have to come out?

Answer: Windows were not installed according to manufacturer’s instructions, windows will need to be removed and replaced in order to meet manufacturer’s instructions for shingling, sealing, and lapping of flashing and air barriers.

Question: Do we stop the wrap at the stone work corners and leave the existing wrap that’s already under the stone work?

Answer: Yes, lap and tape according to manufacturer’s direction to the existing wrap near the stone. The stones are not being removed.

Question: For the entryway roof leak do you want a technical response on the proposed repair?

Answer: Yes.

Question: For the trouble shooting of the LULA item (Item 4A), how should we do the cost estimate?

Answer: Cost estimate should be based on information provided in specifications.

Question: We can’t do 1 bulb, 2 bulbs on the interior lighting. Would turning off every other light be an option?

Answer: Item 6A will remain as written. Optional Item 6B shall state: CONVERTING THE

EXISTING LIGHTING TO ZONED LIGHTING TO INCREASE LIGHTING CONTROL

At the convenience of the CO this optional item will be awarded.

The Contractor will submit prices to divide the lights in the following rooms to zoned control allowing only the light fixtures that are needed to be turned on by switch control in rooms: 5, 6, 11, 17, 18, 19, 20, 32, 33, 36, 37, 39, 40, 45, 45, 47. All the 2 bulb 2x2 fixtures in the corridors will have alternate fixtures connected to separate switches to allow only half the fixtures to be operated when desired. Contractor shall submit a zone plan for acceptance and approval by CO.

Work will be performed by a licensed electrician in compliance with NEC and all applicable codes, following manufacturer’s recommendations, and approval by the CO of submitted product data, shop drawings, cut sheets and a plan and schedule.

Question: Can we use stack switches on the lighting?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is the building wire in conduit?

Answer: Contractor will need to verify. Any new wiring shall be in conduit.

Question: What is the biggest problem with the HVAC?

Answer: There is no zoning in the basement currently. The east and west sides can’t be regulated. One side is too hot, the other too cold.

Question: Is the HVAC complaint year round or seasonal?

Answer: The temperature difference problems are in the upper and lower levels and are year round problems. The problem appears to be lack of dampers/adjustment for balancing the entire system and a lack of zoning or temperature controls in the lower level.

Question: Can insulation of the walls be done while the exterior siding if off?

Answer: If the walls are accessible from the exterior.

Question: Can we use blown insulation over the existing insulation in the attic?

Answer: Can be submitted as an option in contractor’s proposal.

Question: It’s not possible to get an R40 factor with 12” batting. Are we to meet the R40 requirement or just install 12” bat?

Answer: The base bid is for 12”, fiberglass or equal, bat insulation. Contractor can submit an option to meet the R40 factor.

Question: Is there anything mechanical in the attic that has to be serviced?

Answer: Not that the Forest Service is aware of.

Question: Are there any specifications on the exterior wall insulation?

Answer: Contractor needs to specify, in their proposal, what they propose to use for Forest

Service evaluation.

Question: The nails are pulling out on the existing exterior siding. Can the replacement siding be screwed in?

Answer: Install new exterior siding per manufacturer’s recommendations.

Question: Does the stone work have to be cleaned if the replacement siding is thinner than the existing siding?

Answer: Remove any loose caulking, trim, etc. to a near flush condition; stone will not need to be brushed/scraped totally free of caulk.
