Directions:

From Blue Ridge, take Ga. Highway 76 east for 5 miles to Morganton; turn right on Ga. Highway 60 south for 16 miles. Turn left on Forest Service Road 4 and proceed 5 miles north until you reach Mulky Campground on the left. The campground is located along Cooper Creek and offers camping, hiking and fishing. The camping area is across the road from the creek, and offers 11 sites with picnic tables and grills. The roads are good and hard-surfaced until you reach FS road 4; this is a gravel road and is crooked and steep. This project is to provide an accessible toilet and accessible camp spur to this area.

Plans labeled “Mulky Campground CXT Installation”

PHASE 1:

1. Install 250 LF of two rows (500 LF total) of Type C Silt Fence along top of roadside bank as shown on Erosion Control Plans, 1. Initial Erosion Control. Work to be done before any grading, demolition, or vegetation removal begins.

2. Install 80 LF Tree Save Fence as shown on Erosion Control Plans, 1. Initial Erosion Control. Work to be done before any grading, demolition, or vegetation removal begins.

3. Before you dig, be aware that there is a water line running through the area. This water line is being replaced under another contract, which may occur at the same time of this contract!

4. Remove existing picnic tables, grills, and lantern poles and dispose of at the direction of COR.

5. Grade area around toilet to prepare site for the installation of the new toilet.

6. Clear over-story, mid-story and understory vegetation surrounding the toilet building area and camp spur site as directed by COR. Approximately 0.3 acre will be cleared and grubbed.

7. Strip and stockpile topsoil in areas to be graded. Topsoil is to be stockpiled to complete final grading of areas.

8. Stabilize disturbed areas with appropriate stabilization methods per the Erosion Control Plan, 2. Intermediate Erosion Control. Organic material from clearing of mid-story and understory vegetation should remain stockpiled on site per the COR’s direction and be chipped and applied as mulch if possible in those areas marked Ds1. Wood waste should be applied at a depth of 2” to 3” or 6 to 9 ton/acre.

9. All disturbed areas shall be left with a neat appropriate temporary protective cover.

10. The CXT toilet will be installed by others. This Phase 1 is to prepare the site for that to occur and also to prepare the site for the construction of the camping spur.
