December 20, 2016

A Base of approximately 31, 680 feet (6 miles) of new 4-wire, wood post fence is needed to be installed at the USDA-Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) Central Plains Experimental

Range, near 18908 Weld County Road 114 Nunn, CO. There are six (6), 1 mile sections of new fence to be installed: fence 1 (south side of section 7, 1 mile); fence 2 (south side of section 8, 1 mile);

fence 3 (divide between sections 18 and 19, 1 mile); fence 4 (divide between sections 19 and 20, 1 mile); fence 5 (south side of section 19, 1 mile); and fence 6 (south side of section 20, 1 mile), as shown on the attached files. All materials (posts, wire, staples – see below for specs) will be provided by the USDA-ARS. Installation will be provided by the contractor. Removal of existing fence shall be done by the USDA-ARS.

The contractor is shall install 25, 2 post-H-braces (terminal), 3, 2 post-H-braces (in-line), and 14 single in-line corner posts. In-line 2 post-H-braces or single corner posts (see maps) shall be installed approximately every 1,320 feet (1/4 mile) on fence with all 4 wires tied off to facilitate pull of wire in opposite directions from the in-line H-brace or in-line single corner post.

For terminal 2 post H-braces (25 of these), the primary corner post in each of these braces shall be a 7 inch diameter post with length of 10 feet (120 inches). These posts need to be installed to a minimum of 60 inches, thereby leaving approximately 60 inches aboveground. The secondary corner post in each of these braces shall be a 6 inch diameter post with a length of 8 feet (96 inches). These posts shall to be installed to a minimum of 40 inches, thereby leaving approximately

56 inches aboveground. H brace posts shall be connected by a steel pipe (minimum 1.5 inch diameter and a minimum length of 120 inches). A diagonal wire (using #9 wire) shall be wrapped around both posts, with it tied to the bottom of the corner on the H brace using an earth anchor and at top of the other post (see pictures at end of attached file).

For in-line H brace posts (3 of these), both posts shall be a 6 inch diameter post with a length of 8 feet (96 inches). These posts shall to be installed to a minimum of 40 inches, thereby leaving approximately 56 inches aboveground. H brace posts shall be connected by a steel pipe

(minimum

1.5 inch diameter and a minimum length of 120 inches). Two diagonal wires (using #9 wire) shall be wrapped around both posts (see pictures at end of attached file).

Single in-line corner posts (14 of these) shall be a 7 inch minimum diameter post with length of 10 feet (120 inches). These posts shall be installed to a minimum of 60 inches, thereby leaving approximately 60 inches aboveground.

Line posts shall be wood (minimum 4 inch diameter at top, pointed/capped/round and doweled, with a length of 7 feet (or 84 inches). Line posts shall be installed every rod (16 feet), and to a minimum depth of 28 inches, thereby leaving approximately 56 inches aboveground.

Four strands of fence wire shall be as follows, top 3 strands barbed wire (12 ½ gauge, Class I, 2pt, 4 inch spacing) and the 4th (bottom) strand being smooth (barbless) wire (12 ½ gauge, Class

I). Each roll of barbed/barbless wire is approximately 1,320 feet (1/4 mile) in length. The smooth wire shall be attached to wood line posts by barbed, galvanized staples (minimum length of 1.5 inches) at a minimum height of 16 inches from the ground. The 3 top strands of barbed wire shall also be attached to wood line posts by barbed, galvanized staples (minimum length of 1.5 inches) at heights of approximately 28, 40 and 52 inches from the ground.

All sixteen foot tubular steel gates shall be provided by the USDA-ARS and installed by

USDA-ARS personnel. Gate Posts installed by the Contractor shall have a spacing between the posts of 16 feet, plus or minus 2 inches, and shall be plumb within the tolerance of ½ inch in 60 inches. All wood posts are treated.
