AG-1484-S-16-0005 WMNF HQ Antenna Modification/Radio Frequency Cabling and Tower Questions& Answers 02/12/2016
1. In order to verify the tower, antenna and infrastructure is operating correctly in situ and before any equipment removal, standard practice is to perform an RF system test and sweep. Then another similar check is performed after the equipment is re-installed and the two RF and sweeps are compared. Can you make this a required part of the spec to equalize proposals?
Antenna being relocated will only be used as a “test” antenna, thus line sweeps beforehand would only be necessary if the contractor is intending to use the existing RF cable. Line sweeps after installation should be completed on all antennas.
2. In order to verify the “structural and signal loading requirements…” Forest Service must provide the actual specifications beyond this general statement.
Given the design loading used by Nudd and antenna model numbers provided, only then can a comparison be made to verify if the original structure analysis matches the final configuration.
Can you please provide signal load? (The FCC regulates RF emissions as determined by transmit frequency and maximum output power.)
I don’t understand “signal loading” in this context, nor its relevance in what we’re trying to do. The tower is designed to carry many more units than the FS anticipates mounting on the structure. The FS is the only occupant on the structure and the structural loading requirements are not an issue.
3. Contractors are required to mount various items. Can you please specify mount types and sizes per Nudd structural analysis (6’ side arm?).
I personally don’t think we need a 6’ side arm. I think the mounts can be left to the contractor’s discretion as long as they provide the antennas at least 24” distance from the tower.
4 Industry standards require vertical coax support every 4’. And a waveguide ladder is generally a requirement. For proposal consistency, can you verify these MUST be included in solution and price?
Cable ladder with ¾” holes to use snap hangers at 4’ spacing, see attached image 0503.
5. EMT (galvanized steel) conduit is generally specified in all areas subject to damage from equipment, trucks, folk lifts, and from other equipment types. But the solicitation did not clearly require this, so can this EMT be specified (as oppose to cheap PVC conduit)?
Conduit in overhead of garage building is to be EMT, underground is to be PVC.
6. Can you confirm beam clamping to any existing structures is desirable or an option?
Clamp to existing structures is desirable.
7. Can you please confirm the garage wall penetration appears to be thru a studded wall with a composite interior panel and a metal exterior skin?
Building penetration is thru a studded wall, metal exterior skin and plywood interior panel.
8. Shelter related items.
a. Can you provide detailed shelter drawings?
Attached
b. Are there existing wall penetrations in the in the shelter for utilities?
Yes existing
c. Are the walls concrete, or concrete block?
Concrete
d. Or, is it a light weight shelter with studded walls?
No, building weighs 26,000 lbs.
e. Does the shelter have a proper hatch plate to accommodate all lines?
Yes
f. Is there a ground buss bar below the hatch plate?
Yes
g. Is the shelter on a full foundation? What is the foundation size?
No concrete foundation.
h. If there is no standard foundation, what is the “foundation” support structures?
Compacted ¾”Crush bank run gravel.
i. If there is a full foundation, is it spaced (separate from) for grounding away from the tower foundation?
N/A
j. Is there an existing ground ring (#2 solid) 30” below grade around the shelter foundation?
NO- Needs to be installed to meet R-56 Grounding Standards
k. Is it tied to the tower ground ring in two places?
NO- Needs to be installed.
9. The top support bracket at 120’ is not specified by part number, is this provided by the contractor or the Forest Service? The 6’ side arm is specified by part number, but again who will be providing that?
Contractor is responsible to provide top support bracket and the 6’ side arm antenna mount.
10. We would like to quote utilizing a leg mount cable management system pointed towards the center of the tower. Is this acceptable or would you prefer a face mount waveguide ladder?
Cable ladder with ¾” holes to use snap in hangers, see image 503. It is built into that particular tower design but same concept/ attach every 4’.
11. All but one antenna heights are not specified, should we assume cable runs will be to the top of the tower so we can provide desired AGL?
Cable runs to top of 120’ tower.
12. The SOW states that the contractor will supply all grounding materials and necessary RF cable, connectors, and hanging hardware, does this include polyphasers?
Yes contractor supplies polyphasers.
13. For the high and low end voltage electrical runs there are no specifications for conduit size, what would be acceptable?
Whatever meets National Electrical Code for 100Amp 120/240VAC and low voltage 10 pair conductors.
14. To exit the garage with the high voltage run, would a traditional rigid steel conduit and LB configuration be acceptable or is a steel sleeve from a suggested manufacturer in the SOW required?
EMT thru overhead of garage and thru wall penetration and LB to PVC for underground run to shelter would be suitable as long as National Electrical Codes are met.
