PART 1 - GENERAL 4
RELATED DOCUMENTS 7
Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions 9 and other Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 10
SUMMARY 13
This Section includes administrative and procedural requirements for quality-control services. 15 Quality-control services include inspections, tests, and related actions, including reports performed by 17 Contractor. 18 Inspection and testing services are required to verify compliance with requirements specified or 20 indicated. These services do not relieve Contractor of responsibility for compliance with Contract 21 Document requirements. 22 Requirements of this Section relate to customized fabrication and installation procedures, not 24 production of standard products. 25
Specific quality-control requirements for individual construction activities are specified in the 27 Sections that specify those activities. Requirements in those Sections may also cover 28 production of standard products. 29
Specified inspections, tests, and related actions do not limit Contractor's quality-control 31 procedures that facilitate compliance with Contract Document requirements. 32
Related Sections: The following Sections contain requirements that relate to this Section: 35
Division 1 Section "Cutting and Patching" specifies requirements for repair and restoration of 37 construction disturbed by inspection and testing activities. 38
RESPONSIBILITIES 40
Contractor Responsibilities: Unless otherwise indicated as the responsibility of another identified 42 entity, Contractor shall provide inspections, tests, and other quality-control services specified 43 elsewhere in the Contract Documents and required by C.O. Costs for these services are included in 44 the Contract Sum. 45
Where individual Sections specifically indicate that certain inspections, tests, and other 47 quality-control services are the Contractor's responsibility, the Contractor shall employ and 48 pay a qualified independent testing agency to perform quality-control services. Costs for 49 these services are included in the Contract Sum. 50

QUALITY CONTROL 01400 - 2
Retesting: The Contractor is responsible for retesting where results of inspections, tests, or other 52 quality-control services prove unsatisfactory and indicate noncompliance with Contract Document 53 requirements, regardless of whether the original test was Contractor's responsibility. 54
The cost of retesting construction, revised or replaced by the Contractor, is the Contractor's 56 responsibility where required tests performed on original construction indicated 57 noncompliance with Contract Document requirements. 58
Associated Services: Cooperate with agencies performing required inspections, tests, and similar 60 services, and provide reasonable auxiliary services as requested. Notify the agency sufficiently in 61 advance of operations to permit assignment of personnel. Auxiliary services required include, but are 62 not limited to, the following: 63
Provide access to the Work. 65
Furnish incidental labor and facilities necessary to facilitate inspections and tests. 67
Take adequate quantities of representative samples of materials that require testing or assist 69 the agency in taking samples. 70
Provide facilities for storage and curing of test samples. 72
Deliver samples to testing laboratories. 74
Provide the agency with a preliminary design mix proposed for use for materials mixes that 76 require control by the testing agency. 77
Provide security and protection of samples and test equipment at the Project Site. 79
Duties of the Testing Agency: The independent agency engaged to perform inspections, sampling, 81 and testing of materials and construction specified in individual Sections shall cooperate with the 82 Architect and the Contractor in performance of the agency's duties. The testing agency shall provide 83 qualified personnel to perform required inspections and tests. 84
The agency shall notify the C.O. and the Contractor promptly of irregularities or deficiencies 86 observed in the Work during performance of its services. 87
The agency is not authorized to release, revoke, alter, or enlarge requirements of the 89 Contract Documents or approve or accept any portion of the Work. 90
The agency shall not perform any duties of the Contractor. 92
Coordination: Coordinate the sequence of activities to accommodate required services with a 94 minimum of delay. Coordinate activities to avoid the necessity of removing and replacing 95 construction to accommodate inspections and tests. 96
The Contractor is responsible for scheduling times for inspections, tests, taking samples, and 98 similar activities. 99
