3.02 Waste Area
Place the products of clearing and grubbing in an approved upland location.
SECTION 02225
EXCAVATION & EMBANKMENT
This work consists of rehabilitating a stream to restore fish passage and to abandon an existing decayed culvert, constructing aggregate trails, regrading the cabin pad, and placing excess and unsuitable excavated material in approved locations.
2.01 EMBANKMENT MATERIAL
Surplus granular fill and surfacing from excavating the abandoned roadbed or other approved material containing no muck, frozen material, roots, wood, sod, duff or other deleterious substances.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 CLEARING AND GRUBBING
Excavation and placement operations shall be conducted so slash material to be treated will not be incorporated in the roadway.
3.02 EXCAVATION
Excavate as required to accommodate the elevations, lines and grades shown on the drawings.
Do not place excavated material outside of the limits of grading at any time.
3.03 UTILIZATION OF EXCAVATED MATERIALS
Use suitable excavated gravel and rock material for the construction of the cabin pad, slope fills, and aggregate trail.
Place all excess excavated material and unsuitable material in a designated location along the abandoned road about 100 yards upland from the cabin site.
3.04 EMBANKMENT PLACING
For material to be placed under the cabin and deck foundation, place the material in lifts not to exceed 12” deep and compact to at least 95 percent of the maximum density as determined by
AASHTO T 99, Method C or D at a moisture content suitable for attaining the required compaction.
For aggregate trail compaction, place the material in lifts not to exceed 12” deep and compact until visual displacement subsides.
For slope fills, place material in lifts not to exceed 12” deep and compact with excavator bucket or other means until displacement subsides.
3.05 GRADING
Uniformly grade areas within all work areas and establish natural transitions to adjacent undisturbed surfaces. Smooth finished surfaces within specified tolerances, compact with uniform levels or slopes between points where elevations are indicated or between such points and existing grades. Finish surfaces to be free from irregularities and abrupt changes in grade.
3.06 FINISHING SLOPES
Finished slopes shall conform reasonably to the lines staked on the ground or shown on the drawings. The finished slope shall be left in a roughened condition to facilitate the establishment of vegetative growth. Loose rock, loose debris, and other loose material, each of which is larger than 6 inches in diameter, shall be removed from the slope unless otherwise specified or shown on the drawings.
3.07 RELOCATION OF STREAM
To minimize effects on the stream, implement the stream relocation work so the stream remains in the existing channel until all other related work is completed. Obtain CO approval of the work prior to diverting the stream into the new channel. Do not perform excavation or embankment in the vicinity of the stream during times of tidal inundation or high stream flows.
