GRADING RULES REVISION:

A. Softwood lumber shall be graded in accordance with the latest edition of "Grading Rules for Western Lumber" by Western Wood Products Association (WWPA) or “Grading Rules for West Coast Lumber” by West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau (WCLIB). Furnish lumber bearing a recognized grading bureau mark; or a "Certificate of Grade" may be substituted.

In lieu of a grade stamp for Alaska Yellow Cedar, Alaska Hemlock and Alaska Spruce, the Contractor may submit a letter on company letterhead stating (1) the grade of the lumber and (2) that the lumber has been visually graded by a company employee who has held a grading certificate within the previous five years. Include a copy of the employee’s grading credentials with the letter.

Question 1) Is a slump test sufficient for concrete?

Answer: Yes, a slump test is sufficient.

Question 2) Is the contractor required to hire a test lab to come out to do the slump test?

Answer: No, the contractor is required to do testing per Specification. Section 03000.3.08.

Question 3) Does commence work mean we must have materials on site and be working on location?

Answer: Not necessarily, we expect the contractor to begin some kind of work, although that could be ordering materials, etc.

Question 4) What is deck top material (yellow cedar or 4x8 decking)? If rough-cut yellow cedar then does it need grade stamped?

Answer: Refer to Specification Section 133400.Part2.(f), “The deck shall be rough sawn Alaska Yellow Cedar, grade #2 or better. Wood foundation member shall be pressure treated for ground contact.”

Question 5) What are the bonding requirements for this job? In addition, what are the required liability amounts and categories?

Answer: A bid bond is not required with the contractor’s proposal to the solicitation.

Upon award, however, payment and performance bonds are to be provided within 15 days of notice of award. Other required liability amounts and categories were not specified but FAR Clause 52.236-7 was incorporated by reference which indicates that a contractor must be responsible for obtaining any necessary licenses and permits, and for complying with any Federal, State, and municipal laws, codes, and regulations applicable to the performance of the work.

Question 6) Are boulders available on site to block the trail?

Answer: Yes, see Section H.7 Government Supplied Materials.

Question 7) Is the contractor supposed to dig the outhouse hole?

Answer: Yes, see Section J – drawing sheet 2 regarding the outhouse.
