Ag Center Low Voltage RFP Q&A
In reference to the SOW:
Section:
"There are also two fiber runs between data closets."
Question(s):
1.) What are the specs for the two (2) fiber runs to be installed between the data closets?
2.) Only the MDF is identified on the map/print provided, where is/are the other IDF's located?
1&2 This is talking about the two future buildings. We just want to make sure enough fiber is pulled from the BOE MDF to the AG Building to feed the AG Building and the two future buildings.
Section:
"3. On the field end of the camera drops a 25’, not to exceed cable maximum run of 328’, service loop is required. This service loop is for the future if the camera must be moved. a. Suspend the 25’ service loop with a J hook. Do not leave it laying on the ceiling grid. 4. On the field end of data/AP drops at least a 6’, to exceed cable maximum run of 328’, service loop is required. a. Suspend the 6’ service loop with a J hook. Do not leave it laying on the ceiling grid."
Queston(s):
1.) How are the field terminations of the CAT6 runs for the cameras desired? Surface Mount Box w/ Keystone or RJ-45 Male ?
2.) How are the field terminations of the CAT6 runs for the APs desired?
Surface Mount Box w/ Keystone or RJ-45 Male ?
3.) If a Surface Mount Box w/ Keystone termination, for either AP or Cameras< are we to provide the patch cabling as well?
4.) Is there a different color preference for the field patch cables or use the same color sequence as identified in section 10?
5.) What is the desired patch cable length, for the filed terminations, if to be provided?
1&2 Biscuit and Black Keystone Jacks.
3. Yes the winning contractor will provide the patch cable from the biscuit to the equipment.
4. Black patch cables for the field are preferred but any color is ok. If you want to use the same color sequence as in section 10 this is ok.
5. No preferred patch cable length, contractor to use discretion.
Section:
"6. Siemon Z-Max Jacks are preferred. a. Black in color."
Question(s):
1.) Siemons products are preferred, but are equally rated alternative parts allowed to be quoted? Yes. But please note that if all else is equal or close to equal, we will select the bid response with Siemons. That goes for any stated preferred manufacturer in the RFP.
Section:
"8. Cat6 Plenum is required for all drops. a. The color will be specified prior to start of the project and is dependent on the ceiling color. The cable color will be either white or black."
Question(s):
1.) Has a decision been reached as to white or black CAT6 cable color?
Not yet.
Section:
"9. Patch Panels are preferred to be 24 Port."
Question(s):
1.) We are to provide Patch Panels per the SOW; will we also need to provide the switches, or will they be provided by others? Do not include the switches in your proposal.
Section:
"13. When racking data closets please follow the following order..."
Question(s):
Section:
"14. Fiber from existing MDF to the new building – repeated from the first paragraph. a. 24 strands b. 4” conduit c. Qty Two 3 maxcell innerduct d. Approximately 650 ft
Question(s):
1.) Is this fiber run existing and need to be terminated or does a NEW fiber run need to be installed? NEW 2.) If the fiber is to be installed is the pathway from (800Madison Street) to the new Ag Center in place or "provided by others". This fiber is part of this RFP and should be included in your proposal.
Access Control Drops:
There are 6 access controls drops identified on the map/print provided, but not identified in the SOW. Those 6 drops are added to the total count of 118 drops, but no information is provided concerning them.
Question(s):
1.) Are we to provide the cabling for the access control system to be installed in our response? Yes - just a regular data drop. They don't have any other specifications other than the SOW and the count.
2.) If yes, what is the access control system to be installed?
Manufacturer?
3.) What are the cabling specs for the access control system to be installed?
4.) Are we to install CAT6 or composite cabling to the door? CAT6 5.) Are there any other cabling, systems or devices not identified in the SOW that we need to address?
In the summary of the scope of work it states there are “two fiber runs between data closets.” On the drawing I am only able to find the one MDF closet. Is there an IDF closet I have overlooked or is the only fiber run in the scope of work the 24-strand armored fiber run between the main building and the new Agricultural Center MDF?
There will be two additional buildings added at a future date. The fiber run should be sufficient to support all three buildings.
For clarification, we are to include in the bid price to bore underground and bury the fiber in 4”conduit with two 3 maxcell innerduct? Yes - There are site visits tomorrow at 2 pm or next Thursday at 2 pm if you want to actually look at the MDF and the site for the Ag Center.
Do we need to include Siemon Racking (2-post or 4-post), ladder rack, wire managers, and grounding/bonding in the MDF? We did not see MDF closet build out specifications in the scope. You provide it all.
Do we need to provide patch cords on the user end? If so, what patch cord footages for each cable run type? We only see in the scope to include 1-foot patch cords in the MDF.
Good question. Don't include them. Most will be wifi.
The scope specs CAT6 Plenum cable for the project. Just CAT6.
We will consider other, equivalent manufacturers with equivalent warranties.
However, if all other things are equal, preference would be given to bidders proposing Siemon.
For the drops that are over the distance limit, we plan to use POE extenders.
There are two additional buildings planned on this site. We just want these future fiber runs accounted for with future capacity considerations.
Data Cabling/Fiber
1) AP drops. We are able to identify 36 AP drops. 15x 2-Data and 6x 1-Data.
2) Since the Livestock and washdown areas are "exposed", should we count on using outdoor rated cabling to sustain the elements better than plenum or riser?
To do this per code, a conduit would need to be installed for the pathway from the livestock area to the MDF. I would only bid it as scoped.
3) Typically, we provide 10' patch cable for the device side of each cable installed. Do not include these in pricing.We also do outdoor rated cables for outdoor devices. There is no mention of the device side patch cables. Do we need to include these as well?
4) Fiber Enclosures for future phases, do you want us to size the enclosure for growth by going with a 2U or 3U enclosure or stick with a 1U enclosure? In future phases, they can provide a 1U enclosure and cross connect the panels. If it isn't evident in the SOW, I would price the 1U.
5) Fiber pathways. The RFP mentions 4" conduit and 2x 3-cell Maxcell. Do we need to plan on installing said conduit or is this being done by the construction company. Typically, they get it to a certain point, and we have to complete the pathway and make the build entry into the existing facility. This is the reverse.
The LV provider will install the conduit from our existing MDF, buried, under the road to the site. The GC will provide conduit from the building to the road.
6) At the beginning of the Scope of Work it says two fiber runs. There are only specifications for the 650' run of 24 Strand single mode. Just to confirm there is only the one run? One run. Capacity to connect two more buildings from the first building which is the Ag Center.
7) Is there adequate space in the MDF for a 2-post Rack? Or does the rack need to be wall mounted? Floor mount
Conflict/Question Answer
35 WAP drops are noted, but I counted 15 2-port interior and 6 1-port exterior locations, with a total of
36. Please reconcile this count.
Bid 36
The first paragraph calls out two fiber runs but there is only one described, please clarify.
there will be two additional buildings on this site
The location of the MDF (Room 109A) may result in network cable drops exceeding the maximum distance limitations (drops near door 115A3 will exceed 328 Feet). Will a 2nd distribution frame be established to correct this?
We will use boosters for these drops.
Is there a preferred manufacturer for the fiber optic cabling materials?
Siemon and Corning
Will we provide patch cords for the work area outlets or only in the IDF? If yes, will they be a different length?
Device end - do not quote
Will J-hook cable supports need to be painted to match the ceiling color?
Yes - and cable will need to match
Will any additional data drops be required for the A/V system or are they included in the quantities provided?
They should be identified
Is there a minimum length requirement for the fiber cable service loops?
Will providing the 4" conduit for fiber connectivity between buildings be included in the LV scope, or will it be by others?
from existing MDF to where GC stops at road will be included in this proposal - see new clarification
Will the build out of MDF 109A be included on the LV scope? If yes, please provide requirements and specifications for
This should be scoped materials and equipment.
Will the outlets for exterior WAPs and CCTV cameras be located in outdoor rated junction boxes or inside the building?
Outdoor cameras are POE - Camera installers will do these penetrations
If data outlets for exterior devices are located inside the building, will exterior wall penetrations be included in the LV scope, or provided by Div. 28?
Will providing surge supression for exterior WAPs/CCTV cameras be included in the LV scope? If yes, please provide the specifications for the TVSS materials.
Are prevailing wage rates/Davis-Bacon labor rates required? If so, please provide the applicable wage determination publication.
Not sure about this - will have to ask the GC
Will we receive floor plans with AV callouts/locations?
These were posted today. The winning integrator will be expected to meet very quicklly with the architect and GC team.
Those will be necessary for accurate pricing.
For the ClearDigital LED walls -- can a comparable substitution be presented?
Yes - but our district is currently Clear Touch only so you could be scored lower with a different brand.
For speaker quantities, specs, and amps --should we follow the spec to the letter or can/should we make professional recommendations if applicable.
