About this file
This document is an Industry Day presentation for two related National Park Service (NPS) infrastructure projects at Grand Canyon National Park: the South Rim Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) replacement (PMIS #257282) and North Rim Utilities replacement (PMIS #317819). The projects are planned for solicitation and award in 2025-2027, with a total construction magnitude greater than $100M using a Design-Bid-Build method.
The South Rim WWTP project will replace a 1970s facility, designing a new 0.65 MGD monthly flow treatment plant using Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology to produce Class A+ reclaimed water and Class B biosolids. The North Rim Utilities project involves comprehensive infrastructure upgrades, including new water treatment plants, pipelines, power distribution systems, and wastewater treatment facilities. The projects will be procured through one or two firm fixed contracts, with specialized vertical directional drilling for pipeline installation through challenging canyon terrain. Planned construction methods include options for combined or separate contracts to manage technical complexity and risk, with anticipated mobilization involving helicopter-supported logistics for inner canyon access.
