About this file

This Addendum No. 1, issued June 30, 2020, modifies the bidding documents for the Clio High School Cafeteria Renovation project in Clio, Michigan, managed by Clio Area School District with architectural services provided by Integrated Design Solutions, LLC (IDS Project No. 20116-1000). The project encompasses renovation work including ceiling rework, aluminum outriggers installation, wall painting, mechanical ductwork extensions, and PA speaker cover replacements. The addendum introduces revised project manual documents (Sections 00 4100 and 01 2100) and Drawing A2.1, along with the Pre-Bid Meeting Attendance Record and Pre-Bid RFI Log. A pre-bid walk-through meeting was held on June 23, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Clio High School. Bidders were required to acknowledge receipt of this addendum on their bid forms, with bids due by June 12, 2020 (prior to addendum issuance), and project substantial completion targeted for October 9, 2020.

The bid structure includes a base lump-sum bid with two contingency allowances: Flex Ductwork Extension ($2,500) and PA Speaker Cover Replacement ($2,000). Two alternates are specified for optional pricing: reworking the ceiling and suspending aluminum outriggers over Serving 105 (Alternate No. 1) and painting the south wall of Cafeteria 100 (Alternate No. 2). Bidders may submit voluntary alternates with proposed pricing adjustments. Bid security of five percent of the base bid is required, with bids valid for thirty days post-submission. All applicable federal, state, and local taxes must be included in bids. The contingency allowances include contractor overhead, profit, delivery, installation, taxes, insurance, and equipment rental costs, with unused allowance amounts credited to the owner at project closeout through change orders.

RFI

NO.

BIDDER QUESTION DESIGN TEAM RESPONSE

001 Is the demolition contractor responsible for the abatement of any hazardous materials (asbestos, lead paint, etc.)? If yes, does the district have a recent report available for bidders?

The owner will handle the abatement of any hazardous materials in the work area.

002 Are we permitted to use the double doors at the south wall of the cafeteria as an access point for crew and materials?

The double doors are permitted for access. Protection should be taken to avoid damaging doors, frames, hardware, etc. Any damage to the door or surrounding area will be the responsibility of the contractor to repair at no cost to the owner.

003 Are ceiling mounted devices (fire alarm, speakers, WAP’s, etc.) within the cafeteria to be replaced with new or are they to be removed and reinstalled?

Devices within the work area are not new. Devices should be removed from the ceiling prior to demolition and reinstalled in new ceiling panels as indicated with the “R” on the electrical plans.

004 Is there a priority/sequence of construction for the project? Ceiling and light work within Cafeteria 101 should be the first work completed to allow the school to conduct normal operations.

Pre-Bid RFI Log IDS Project No. 20116-1000 June 29, 2020 https://team.ids-troy.com/F/2020/20116/1000/Specs/Addendums/Add001/20116-1000 Prebid RFI Log.docx

BIDDER QUESTION DESIGN TEAM RESPONSE

005 What are the temporary protection requirements? Refer to section 02 4119 for temporary protection requirements.

006 Would the district like an alternate price to replace the eight (8) PA speakers within the cafeteria? If yes, please provide a model number or cut sheet. They appear yellow in color and may not look great with a new, white ceiling.

Refer to revised “01 2100 Allowances”. The speakers do work but there is a desire to change the cover/grille only. Please carry the allowance indicated. A cut sheet on the existing speakers will be provided at a later date for matching.

007 Are we expected to cut our receptacles into the walls of the food service area. I don’t see anything on the print about them being surface mounted. It being a block wall, normally we surface mount them

Receptacles and switches on existing CMU walls are to have conduit concealed in food service areas per 26 0533 3.1. CMU face shells should be removed and new shells installed to accommodate conduit installation.

Receptacles and switches on the new, gypsum board/metal stud walls or CMU infill walls are to be recessed within the wall construction.

008 Will any of the work take place on second shift or weekend time? Work taking place during the summer (prior to restart of school) is to take place on first shift. Any construction activities that take place after school restarts should take place on second shift.

009 What are our responsibilities as it pertains to the setup of the new food service equipment?

The district will set all equipment.

011 Who should bids be submitted to? And what is the award timeline? The intent of the project is to issue one (1) contract between the Owner and the successful Prime Contractor. Any non-prime contractors should submit their bids to a submitting Prime Contractor.

Prime Contractors should submit their bids per “00 1113 Advertisement for Bids”.

After receipt of bids, any bidders chosen to participate in a post-bid review should be available for these meetings July 9th or 10th so that IDS can make a recommendation for award to the school board at their July 16 meeting.
