About this file

Addendum No. 1 is issued by the Town of Telluride Public Works Department for the Canyonland and Tomboy Street Utility and Paving Improvements project. The addendum provides several critical modifications to the original bid documents, including a $10,000 contract revision, a correction to Line Item 31 from 150 cubic feet to 430 cubic yards, and specification of an invert elevation for Proposed MH #3 at 8732.9'. The document includes detailed information about soil conditions, with two soil borings and a particle size distribution analysis attached, and provides guidance on bypass pumping, flow rates, and geotextile filter fabric requirements. The addendum also indicates that complete closure of Tomboy Street may be permitted with proper coordination with the town, Telluride Lodge, and area residents.

The addendum includes technical specifications that will impact bidding and project execution, such as soil permeability characteristics (USCS Classification SP, SM, and SC) and flow rates into existing manholes. Contractors are instructed to include costs for geotextile filter fabric (Mirafi 140N) as subsidiary to Line Item 32 and to secure the fabric on bottom, sides, and with an 18-inch overlap on top of the Squeegee pipe embedment. The document provides an opportunity for contractors to list any exceptions to the bid, suggesting flexibility in the bidding process. The soil analysis reveals a brown silty sand with gravel composition, with specific grain size distributions and classification details that will be crucial for construction planning and execution.

Addendum No. 1

Canyonland and Tomboy St. Utility and Paving Improvements

Town of Telluride, Colorado

1. F/A Minor Contract Revisions: Contractor shall fill in $10,000.

2. Line Item 31 shall be read to mean 430 cubic yards (CY), not 150 cubic feet (CF). Contractor may edit the bid form accordingly.

3. Invert elevation coming East IN Proposed MH #3 will be 8732.9’. See additional notes and clarifications on Plan Sheets 31 & 32 attached to this Addendum.

4. Two (2) related soil borings are attached, and one (1) particle size distribution taken along the proposed alignment on the Canyonland lot. Contractor may assume soil permeability changes within the construction dewatering matrix, as varying layers of soil to be dewatered are characteristic of USCS Classification SP (poorly graded sands, gravelly sands, with little or no fines), SM (silty sands), and to a lesser, but present extent SC (clayey sands).

5. Bypass pumping shall be considered subsidiary to connections to existing sewer (Line Item 14).

Flow into MH 56.2.1 is approximately 200 gpm (flow is considerably less when school is not in session with the high school being on this line). Flow into existing MH 57.2.0 (5-LF east of proposed MH #3) is approximately 5 gpm. Flow into existing MH #1 on Pacific (56.0.0) from the north is 10 gpm.

6. Contractor shall include cost of geotextile filter fabric Mirafi 140N for soil separation (procurement and installation). Mirafi 140N shall be secured on bottom, sides, and overlapped

18-inches on top of the Squeegee pipe embedment. Costs shall be considered subsidiary to Line Item 32.

7. Complete closure of Tomboy Street may be allowed provided detailed construction schedule is coordinated with the Town, Telluride Lodge, and area residents.

8. Contractor may list exceptions to the bid here:

BORING LOGS

Field Procedure for the Collection of Disturbed Samples Disturbed soil samples were obtained in the field using the following methods.

Bulk Samples Bulk samples of representative earth materials were obtained from the exploratory borings.

The samples were bagged and transported to the laboratory for testing.

Field Procedure for the Collection of Relatively Undisturbed Samples Relatively undisturbed soil samples were obtained in the field using the following methods.

The California Drive Sampler The sampler, with an external diameter of 2.4 inches, was lined with four, 4-inch long, thin brass rings with inside diameters of approximately 1.9 inches. The sample barrel was driven into the ground with the weight of a hammer in general accordance with ASTM D3550. The driving weight was permitted to fall freely. The approximate length of the fall, the weight of the hammer, and the number of blows per foot of driving are presented on the boring logs as an index to the relative resistance of the materials sampled. The samples were removed from the sample barrel in the brass liners, sealed, and transported to the laboratory for testing.
