About this file

This is an Addendum 1 Questions & Answers document for Request for Proposal No. 260000000649, issued by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for Oakland County, addressing curb and gutter Detail M opening repair work on US-24 BL/Dixie Highway. The addendum clarifies technical requirements and payment terms for the project, including specifications for concrete curing signs, lane closures, density testing, joint sealing, pavement patching, and lane tie/pull testing. Key clarifications indicate that density testing is required only in locations where 21AA aggregate will be used unless otherwise approved by the project manager, survey grades will not be provided by MDOT for repairs exceeding 50 feet in length, and pedestrian sidewalk closures are not required due to field conditions with high driveway frequency, though contractors remain responsible for protecting excavated areas near walkways with coning and barriers.

The document addresses payment methodologies for various repair scenarios, specifying that concrete pathway patching and hand patching for HMA driveways will be paid under designated line items based on site conditions and existing depths. Contractors are expected to perform longitudinal saw cuts to prevent adjacent pavement damage, with any unavoidable damage remediated after squaring the damaged area. The addendum confirms that lane tie/pull tests are required on this project and that concrete curing signs, when required, will be paid under applicable RFP line items. Simultaneous single-lane closures in both directions are permitted within MDOT specifications.

Addendum 1 – Questions & Answers

Request for Proposal (RFP) No. 260000000649

Curb and Gutter, Detail M Opening Repair – US-24 BL/Dixie Hwy, Oakland County

These questions and answers also appear on the solicitation’s Q&A List tab in SIGMA VSS

Bidder’s Question State’s Answer

1.

If concrete curing signs are required, will they be paid under the line item in the

RFP?

Yes

2.

Can one single lane closure in WB and one single lane closure EB simultaneously within the MDOT specs?

Yes

3.

Will density be required on all curb or M-opening repairs regardless of use of 21AA aggregate?

Regular compaction at all locations shall be performed by Contractor as required by the PM. Density testing in locations where 21AA aggregate will be needed, unless otherwise approved by the PM.

4.

For areas of curb and gutter M-opening repairs in excess of 50 feet in length will MDOT supply survey grades as needed?

No

5.

Will pedestrian sidewalk closures be required? If so, how will they be paid?

Not Required due to the on field conditions such as high frequency of Driveways to perform a Class II Barricade closure on certain stretches might be inefficient and not possible. However, if there are any open excavated areas that are close to walk paths, it will be Contractor responsibility to cone and protect the area.

6.

Will joint sealing be required on all three sides of all concrete curb and gutter, M-openings, etc.? Or, is it only on overcut areas adjacent to repairs?

Overcuts only

7.

How will concrete drive approaches and/or HMA areas adjacent to the repair of curb and gutter M-opening, etc., be paid? The depth is not specified?

Contractor is expected to perform longitudinal saw cuts for the clean removal of the curb without adjacent pavement damage. In a condition where the adjacent driveway/pavement/pathway are in bad condition and damage is inevitable, the patching on these areas shall be performed after squaring of the damaged area.

Concrete driveways shall be paid under “Conc Pathway Patching”, HMA Driveways under “Hand Patching, HMA”.

The depth is currently unknown, and the existing depth shall be replaced based on site conditions. The same shall apply for any pathways that are behind the curb to be replaced.

8.

Is a lane tie/pull test required on this project?

Yes
