PART 3: EXECUTION

3.1 SCHEDULING OF WORK

a. All above grade surfaces scheduled to be coated shall have complete coating systems applied prior to the mounting of any equipment or systems, including electrical and control panels.

b. With the exception of walls and ceilings, field painting shall not be started for any section of the work until equipment, apparatus, and pipe for that section have been erected and tested, unless otherwise permitted by the Owner’s Representative.

3.2 PRE-COAT MEETINGS

a. The Contractor shall arrange a pre-coating meeting with the Owner’s Representative or inspector prior to applying any coating systems. The foreman of the painting crew who will be the field supervisor during the paint or coating application for the work being discussed shall be in attendance at each pre-coating meeting held.

1) All prep work shall be completed prior to holding the pre-coating meeting, including removal of all formwork covering surfaces to be coated, completion of any grouting work at penetrations or joints, caulking/sealing, and all other work as required to ensure that surfaces are exposed for visual verification that they are ready for application of the specified coating(s).

2) If various surfaces are coated during different stages of the project, additional pre-coating meeting(s) shall be scheduled prior to applying the coatings, once the surfaces to be coated is completed and prepped for the specified coating system as noted above.

b. It shall be the Contractor’s responsibility to ensure that the painting foreman is familiar with the manufacturer’s recommendations for each paint/coating system and to verify compliance (including but not limited to temperature or moisture limitations, surface preparation, time between coats, etc.).

1) Any variances from specification requirements (in order to conform with the manufacturer’s recommendations) shall be noted by the painting foreman and discussed with the Owner’s Representative or inspector at this meeting.

Hayesville Sewer PS & Water Impr Section 09900 - 5 of 8 WE 2272.3230.0 applied and to all applicable OSHA requirements.

b. Interior Painting may be done only when the building has been thoroughly dried, by natural or artificial heat, and when the work area is properly heated and ventilated, clean and as nearly dust free as possible. A room temperature of at least 60° F shall be maintained during application and until coatings are dry.

c. Exterior Painting shall not be done during or immediately following rainy or frosty weather or when the temperature is below 50° F or likely to drop below freezing during drying period. The application of treatment while surfaces are exposed to hot sun, or when temperature is above 90° F, or likely to be during the drying period, shall be avoided.

d. Dust: Paint shall not be applied in areas where dust is being generated.

3.43.5 PROTECTION OF SURFACES NOT SCHEDULED TO BE PAINTED
