3.0 FIRE PUMPS
Bldg. 21: Has an electric In-Line Vertical Fire Pump for the building fed from the domestic water on base.
Bldg. 85: Pump Station drafts from the river and houses five (5) 2500 gallon/minute diesel driven fire pumps that serve all Fire Protection Systems on the eastern industrial portion of the base (encompassing all buildings east of Hangar 49 including Bldg. 49). Each of the five (5) engine/pump systems has a fire pump controller and is fueled by an individual day tank.
Bldg. 100: Has an Engine Test Cell Spurt System serving each of the three (3) engine test cells. There is a common “Fog Pump” that drafts water from a wet well that also serves as dynamometer cooling water. The existing pump is a 250 GPM Layne and Bowler three (3) stage pump.
HMF Pump House: There are three (3) 2500 GPM Patterson Pumps that provide fire protection for both HMF-1 and HMF-2. Each of the three (3) engine/pump systems has a fire pump controller (Firetrol) and is fueled by an individual fuel tank. Water is supplied to the pumps from two (2) 300,000 gallon above ground water tanks.
4.0 DELUGE VALVES
HMF-1 and HMF-2 (ALC Heavy Maintenance Facility): The hangar areas of these buildings are protected by foam/water open head deluge systems. System actuation is electrical, utilizing infrared devices through a AFFF Releasing Panel. The foam supply for these systems is from four (4) 600 gallon bladder storage tanks.
Hangar 49 (AIRSTA Rotary Wing): The fire suppression system serving this building was recently replaced in 2016. The hangar portion of this building is protected by a closed head AFFF fire suppression system. AFFF is supplied via two (2) 1000 gallon AFFF bladder tanks.
Hangar 55 (AIRSTA Fixed Wing): The hangar portion of this building is protected by four (4) foam/water open head deluge systems consisting of 6” Viking deluge valves. System actuation is electrical utilizing rate of rise/fixed temperature releasing devices through a master control panel. There are also three (3) abort stations throughout the hangar. The foam supply for these systems is from two (2) 2200 gallon storage tanks and two (2) electric foam pumps. A major rehab of the deluge system was completed January 2010.
Hangars 75 and 79 (ALC Maintenance): The hangar portion of these buildings are protected by a closed head AFFF fire suppression system. Complete replacement of Hangar 79 fire suppression was completed in 2012. Complete replacement of Hangar 75 fire suppression was completed in 2013. AFFF is supplied via two (2) 900 gallon bladder tanks/hangar.
Hangar 77 (ALC Blasting and Stripping Shop): The hangar portion of this building is protected with two
(2) open head deluge systems with Viking deluge valves. System actuation is by a hydraulic release line (wet pilot line) equipped with combination rate of rise/fixed temperature releasing devices. This release line serves both deluge valves indicating that the valves trip simultaneously. This system is original to the building built in 1952. This deluge system is scheduled to be replaced within the next two
(2) years.
Hangar 87 (ALC Paint Hangar): This building is protected via closed head water only fire suppression system.
Bldg. 100 (Engine Test Cells): Three (3) test cells in this facility are protected with water only deluge systems installed in 2012. The remaining portion of the building is protected with closed head system.
