About this file
This is a Questions & Clarification document (Revision 1) for RFQ AA-2026-07 regarding heater procurement. The document does not specify a federal agency, but references LBNL (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory), suggesting a Department of Energy contract.
The clarification addresses vendor inquiries regarding four technical specification items. Item 1 concerns tolerance specifications, which the buyer confirmed are based on available installation space but may be negotiated if achievable alternatives are proposed. Item 4 addresses material composition, specifically whether 316L stainless steel is required; the buyer clarified that Requirements 3, 4, and 8 collectively aim to ensure magnetic permeability does not exceed 1.04 and that alternative materials meeting this requirement are acceptable. Item 8 addresses lead wire gauge (22AWG stranded NPC), with the buyer indicating alternative gauges may be proposed provided they satisfy minimum current requirements. Item 9 was contingent on Item 8 clarification. Additionally, the buyer provided the lead wire length specification of 24 inches with a tolerance of +4"/-0". All other terms and conditions remain unchanged, and submissions are due by May 29, 2026.

Questions & Clarification Rev. 1
RFQ AA-2026-07
Question: There are some items in the technical specifications section that we need to deviate or come to some agreement on.
Answer: Please provide the list of specifications you propose to deviate from. We will evaluate each item and provide our feedback.
Question: In particular items 1, 4, 8, and 9.
• Item 1 – where did this tolerance come from? We haven’t used this on any of the heaters supplied to LBNL in the past.
Answer: The specified tolerance is based on the available space to install the heaters. If meeting this tolerance is a concern, the vendor may propose an achievable tolerance.
• Item 4 – we use a 300 Series SS but we don’t specify that’s it’s 316L SS. Is 316L SS absolutely required for the design?
Answer: Requirements 3, 4 and 8 are aimed at ensuring the magnetic permeability of the heater assembly does not exceed 1.04. The vendor may propose alternative material that meets this requirement.
• Item 8 – Please confirm that 22AWG stranded NPC is absolutely required Answer: See response to item4. Additionally, an alternative gauge of the lead wire may be proposed so long as it satisfy the mininum needed for the max current.
• Item 9 – We need to make sure we’re on the same page with Item 8 before we can comment on Item 9.
Answer: See response to item8
Question: Only the lead tolerance of +4"/-0" was listed in the Statement of Work. Please provide the lead length.
Answer: The leadwire length shall be 24" +4"/-0"
All other terms and conditions of this RFQ remain the same.
