About this file
This is a test procedure document (K-301-D) for verifying the tightness of a Periscope Mast Control Valve prior to installation in an SDV (SEAL Delivery Vehicle). The procedure outlines an air tightness test for the Mast Control Valve (P/N 7005580-1) to be performed by a Test Conductor and Reviewer.
The test procedure requires pressurizing various valve ports to 205-215 psig and observing for leaks while the valve is fully immersed in clean water for 5-6 minute intervals. The test is performed in multiple valve positions using calibrated pressure gauges (0-250 to 0-400 psig with ±0.5% accuracy). Key equipment includes clean connecting hoses, fittings, clean water container, and regulated compressed air supply. The document includes detailed steps, safety requirements, data recording sheets, and acceptance criteria specifying no leaks are acceptable during the test intervals. This procedure was prepared by NSWC PCD Code E43 and received NAVSEA approval, with the latest revision (Rev D) dated April 28, 2017.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 TEST PREPARATION
5.1.1 Verify that the valve has been tagged QC acceptable and has been serialized.
5.1.2 If the valve has no handle, install a temporary handle for the test.
5.1.3 Operate the valve through all positions to verify that it is operating correctly.
5.1.4 If the valve is not operating correctly or is otherwise unacceptable, abort the test.
5.2 AIR TIGHTNESS TEST (Refer to Figure 1)
5.2.1 Connect the clean air supply with the calibrated pressure gauge in line to valve port D.
5.2.2 Install the plug in valve port A.
5.2.3 Rotate the valve handle to position 1 and pressurize the system to 205 +10/-0 psig. No air should pass through the valve.
5.2.4 Fully immerse the valve in clean water. Record the start time on the Data Sheet.
5.2.5 Observe the water for evidence of escaping air for 5 +1/−0 minutes. No leaks are acceptable. If no leaks are detected, record the results and the stop and elapsed times on the Data Sheet. If a leak is detected, record the results on the Data Sheet and abort the test.
5.2.6 Depressurize the system by securing the air supply and slowly rotating the valve handle to purge the lines.
5.2.7 Remove the plug from port A and install it into valve port C.
5.2.8 Rotate the valve handle to position 2 and pressurize the system to 205 +10/−0 psig. No air should pass through the valve.
5.2.9 Repeat steps 5.2.5 and 5.2.6.
5.2.10 Connect the clean air supply with the calibrated pressure gauge in line to valve port B.
5.2.11 Rotate the valve handle to position 1 and pressurize the system to 205 +10/-0 psig. No air should pass through the valve.
5.2.12 Repeat steps 5.2.5 and 5.2.6.
5.2.13 Remove the plug from port C and install it into valve port A.
5.2.14 Rotate the valve handle to position 2 and pressurize the system to 205 + 10/−0 psig. No air should pass through the valve.
5.2.15 Repeat steps 5.2.5 and 5.2.6.
5.2.16 Remove the valve from the water.
