OVERVIEW

OBJECTIVE

Modernize AFSOC/A5/8 spaces with new materials and layouts designed to provide natural light to more personnel and encourage increased collaboration.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

While each office requires a design based on space available and other specific needs, there are a few overarching design goals for each office.

• Maximize natural light – To the max extent possible, either any wall parallel to windows will rise no higher than administration height with the next 12-24 inches framed or frameless frosted glass.

Frameless is preferred (Figure 5)

• Minimize sound propagation – To the max extent possible, and depending on specific office needs, walls perpendicular to windows will be high walls providing standing privacy. The top third of the wall can be clear glass, even if it eliminates privacy.

• Walls in each workspace will have one panel of slotted tool panels and one panel of magnetic marker board (Figure 3, Figure 4).

• Exterior walls long heavily trafficked areas will be hard surface (Figure 2).

• Remaining walls will be standard fabric.

• Each workstation will have two freestanding pedestal drawers for storage.

• There will be no overhead storage.

• Color Pallet (Figure 6) o Structure: White or Light Gray o Panels: Grey and Blue o Work Surface: light brown wood o Cabinetry: white with metal handles, four leg

OFFICE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

For all the following requirement descriptions, the “Drawings” section of this document has contractor provided drawings of a setup that can work. It is not required to follow this design, though it does satisfy the base level requirements. These drawings are available in a separate PDF file for more detail. Cost estimates are also available for the provided designs.

A5R – 234E

• 38 Workstations o Majority should be in a 6x6 per desk quad layout (Figure 7).

o Some single 6x6 L-shapes will fill out extra space (Figure 8).

• Overall design description should be follow as much as possible.

• Area for 2-3 Printers/All-In-One and 1-2 shredders with storage for extra paper and supplies.

• Area for 2-3 tall storage cabinets.

• Area for refrigerator and bookcase/display area.

• Where possible, a small central table should go in the middle of quad working areas to aid in collaboration

(Figure 9)

Figure 9: Quad with Table

A5K – 243W

• 44 Workstations o Will consist of a mixed layout of workstations, included quad layouts, L-shaped, and rows (Figure

10, Figure 11).

• Overall design description should be follow as much as possible.

• Area for 2-3 Printers/All-In-One and 1-2 shredders with storage for extra paper and supplies.

• Area for 2-3 tall storage cabinets.

• Large conference table for 8-10 people.

• Where possible, a small central table should go in the middle of quad working areas to aid in collaboration

(Figure 9)

• A high walled storage area with a full size door. It is required to go on the interior wall Sontay Conference room, utilizing the only area of the open office without a view of windows for a storage area.

o 3 storage cabinets o 2-4 shelving units.

A8I AND A8X – 209W

• 24 Workstations o Workstation layout will be more convoluted than other rooms. Primary objective is to have two relatively distinct areas – A8I and A8X.

o A8I will take the eastern side of the room (right side when you walk in).

o A8X will take the western side of the room (left side when you walk in).

• Overall design description should be follow as much as possible.

• Area for 2-3 Printers/All-In-One and 1-2 shredders with storage for extra paper and supplies.

• Area for 2-3 tall storage cabinets.

• 1-2 small conference areas where possible.

A5/8 FRONT OFFICE – 243W

• 6 Workstations o Reception area:

3 8x8 L-shaped desks.

Administrative height walls, with a transaction counter along the outside wall.

o Pool area:

3 L-shaped deals – size is dependent on room.

Sitting height privacy walls, or admin height with frosted glass for the upper section.

Figure 10: Quad Desks

Figure 11: Row of Desks

• Area for two printers with storage for paper and supplies.

• 2 – 3 short storage cabinets

• Room for 4-6 waiting area chairs in reception area.

ADDITIONAL CONSTRAINTS AND REQUIREMENTS

In order to prevent an unnecessarily large work disruptions across a large swath of AFSOC Headquarters staff each section will occur sequentially – A5K, then A5R, then A8X, then the Front Office. This will reduce the amount of workstations requiring wiring and communication setup at one time and prevent spaces not under active modification from going unused.

Additionally, due to the need for new carpet, the contractor will be required to remove existing furniture and allow a 1-week period in each office area before new furniture installation. Combined with the requirement for sequential installation described about this may extend the overall job period of performance.

A full Gantt chart exists for this project. One example section providing an example of planned timelines is below (Table 1: A5K Example Timeline)
