About this file
This is a Simplified Acquisition Brand-Name Justification document for the Indian Health Service (IHS) proposing to purchase Dell equipment for the Portland Area Office. The procurement involves replacing end-of-life Dell equipment, including servers and tape devices, with new Dell hardware that will integrate with the existing infrastructure. The justification emphasizes the need for brand consistency to maintain network compatibility, reduce support costs, and minimize service interruptions.
Key details include a requisition number IHS1515381, with a TBD performance period and an estimated value that is redacted. The acquisition is specifically justified as a brand-name essential purchase, with rationale including the need to maintain standardized network equipment, minimize service interruptions, and avoid additional training and compatibility issues. The IHS Office of Information Technology has certified Dell equipment on its approved hardware/software list, and the procurement is set up to select a system integrator or reseller primarily based on cost. The document highlights potential risks of introducing non-Dell equipment, such as increased support complexity and potential disruption to patient care administrative functions.

IHS can utilize staff resources with common technical skills sets, reducing the need for IHS contractors to bill for staff with different technical skills sets.
Procuring different brand names beyond those specified within this justification, the Portland Area Indian Health Service (PAIHS) will sustain duplication of cost to the Government, because such duplication within the network environment must be supported and additional personnel
