About this file

This document is an access summary for the PKAA Wandering Prospector Project in Colorado, providing detailed travel and site access information for project features that were not visited during a prebid tour on June 4, 2026. The summary outlines accessibility details for multiple work points (WP-02 through WP-27) located across a geographic area spanning from near Leadville northward to the Twin Lakes region. Key features include WP-02 through WP-04 and WP-25 in the East Tennessee Creek drainage, requiring approximately 45 minutes travel time with the final two miles on unimproved Forest Service Road #102; WP-14 in Iowa Gulch with foot-only access 75 feet downhill from the road; WP-15 and WP-16 in Two Bit Gulch with equipment access available; WP-17 and WP-18 in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness near Independence, requiring a 0.75-mile moderate hike with creek crossing and no motorized equipment permitted; WP-19 and WP-20 near Winfield with foot-only access and significant elevation challenges; and WP-27 adjacent to Highway 82 near Twin Lakes with convenient roadside parking and minimal walking distance.

The access summary establishes critical logistical parameters for contractors responding to this project, indicating varying levels of site accessibility and equipment restrictions that will directly impact project scheduling, costs, and feasibility. Travel times range from approximately 20 to 60 minutes depending on the work point location, with several sites requiring foot-only access and minimal equipment capability. Terrain conditions vary from good dirt roads to very rough unimproved surfaces, with some locations in wilderness areas imposing environmental restrictions on machinery and equipment use. This information is essential for bid preparation, as it documents the physical constraints and access limitations that contractors must account for when developing project schedules, resource allocation, and cost estimates.
