About this file
Summary: Wheel Loader Contract Technical Specification
This is a Contract Technical Specification for the procurement of one brand-new Caterpillar 938 small wheel loader (or approved equal) equipped for high-lift truck loading, forks, snow-pushing, winter operations, and payload management suitable for sub-Arctic conditions. The machine must deliver a minimum gross engine power of 188 hp (Tier 4 Final/Stage V equivalent), achieve a maximum roading speed of 25 mph or greater, and maintain an operating weight of at least 35,000 lbs with required options. Critical performance specifications include a minimum breakout force of 26,000 lbs, hydrostatic transmission with operator-selectable modes, and a cab equipped with automatic climate control. All equipment must support high-lift geometry for increased hinge-pin height and dump clearance when loading high-sided trucks and hoppers.
Required components include a Fusion hydraulic quick coupler for attachment interchangeability, a heavy counterweight (minimum 1,200 lbs), 23.5R25 winter traction tires (Michelin X SNOPLUS or approved equal), a 3.5 cubic yard general-purpose bucket with cutting edge, forks rated for pallet handling, and a compatible 12-foot snow pusher. The machine must feature auxiliary hydraulics supporting third and fourth functions, a ride control system adjustable via cab display, and auxiliary controls for attachment operation. Additional requirements include a premium LED auxiliary lighting package, DOT-compliant LED roading lights, extreme cold weather packages (cold-oil cooler bypass valve, ether starting aid, 120V block heater, cold-weather hydraulic bypass, four 1,000-CCA batteries, factory coolant rated to –58°F, and heated engine breather kit), a Cat Payload System or equivalent with thermal ticket printer, heated and electrically adjustable mirrors, rear object detection, a deluxe air-suspension seat with telescoping steering column, and a 24-volt electrical system. The vendor must provide a completed compliance matrix, full build sheet with all option codes, operator and service manuals, and a payload calibration certificate. A minimum 12-month full machine warranty is required, and the dealer must be within 225 miles of Copper Center, Alaska and offer remote service support. Delivery is to Wrangell St Elias National Park, Attn: Jay Heidelberg, 106.8 Richardson Highway, Copper Center, AK 99573.
