About this file

This document is a technical specification for Aggregate Surfacing (Section 32 15 00) for the Rehabilitate the Old El Portal Debris Basin, Gabion, and Service Road project at Yosemite National Park (YOSE), scheduled for May 2025. The specification provides detailed requirements for furnishing, transporting, placing, grading, and compacting aggregate surfacing materials, including surface course aggregates, crushed aggregates, and decomposed granite.

Key technical requirements include precise material gradation specifications, quality control testing procedures, and specific placement and compaction instructions. The specification mandates that all aggregate surfacing materials must be sourced from an accepted supplier, be certified weed-free, and meet strict material quality standards such as Los Angeles abrasion limits, fractured face percentages, and moisture content requirements. Contractors must submit detailed documentation, prepare test plots for decomposed granite, and follow specific mixing, placement, and compaction guidelines, with a focus on achieving uniform density and maintaining original site contours and slope gradients.
