About this file

This file contains site location maps, aerial imagery, diagrams and photos related to a Small Arms Firing Range (SAFR) at the Kulm Wildlife Management District (WMD) in North Dakota. The documentation provides detailed information about the firing range layout and specifications for remediation work.

The site maps and diagrams show a firing range with a 108-foot long backstop berm that is 38 feet wide at the base and 10 feet high. The shooting line is approximately 79 feet wide, with target boards positioned 75 feet from the shooting line and 6 feet from the face of the berm. The contractor is required to remove and test contaminated soil from the berm face (including 3 feet on either side of target boards), conduct grid sampling across 25 distinct areas of the range, recover bulk lead through sieving, and properly dispose of contaminated materials. The aerial imagery shows the range location relative to Kulm, ND and includes maintenance facilities and support structures visible in 2004 ground photos showing target frames and shooting positions.

38 Feet At Base Estimate

The contractor shall assume the face of the berm is contaminated with lead including three feet on either side of the target boards. The contractor shall conduct testing to determine if additional soils on the edge are contaiminated.

The contractor will remove three feet from the face of the berm and recover bulk lead by sieve. Soils shall be tested to determine level of contamination and proper disposal. Bulk lead will be recycled.

After the first three feet of soil has been removed from the face of the berm, the contractor shall test the face of the berm to identify if additional material shall be removed. The contractor will provide a cubic yard cost for any additional soils that are required to be removed. Note: Follow-up sampling will be required if additional material is removed from the face.

79 Feet Estimated Shooting Line

Contractor shall make a grid and conduct random sampling of shooting range for contamination. The grid area shall be a minimum of Twenty-Five (25) distinct areas sampled. The contractor will provide a proposed sampling plan. Note: The Target Board Line is wider than the 79-foot estimated shooting line.
