About this file

This is a policy document issued by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, establishing requirements for Catholic priest endorsements in military service contracts.

The policy addresses the shortage of active-duty priests available to serve in the Armed Forces by permitting contracts to be offered to civilian priests approved by the Archdiocese. Catholic priests seeking to contract directly with military installation contracting offices must obtain endorsement from the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS). The AMS will only endorse priests who contract directly with military installations and will not endorse priests who are subcontracted through third-party contractors. The policy permits waivers on an ad-hoc basis for serious needs in remote locations. Existing arrangements with religious communities or Catholic dioceses remain unaffected by this policy clarification. The policy was issued on July 20, 2017, by (The Most Reverend) Timothy P. Broglio, Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, and forms part of the "Minimum Requirements for the Pastoral Care of Catholic Personnel" effective August 1, 2011.
