About this file
This document appears to be a detailed design plan for an EXEVAL (Exercise Evaluation) Rubble Pile training site, outlining specific structural components and placement for urban search and rescue training operations. The plan includes three primary training elements: concrete slabs (5'x6'x4" with 3/8" rebar), U-channels, and concrete barriers, strategically positioned to simulate breaching, breaking, and confined space rescue scenarios. Each element serves a specific training purpose, with provisions for placing training dummies and creating realistic rescue environment simulations.
The site layout includes multiple training stations for different rescue techniques, such as rope rescue, confined space operations, and shoring operations. Specific recommendations include using a manhole for rope and confined space rescue, positioning a tripod, and ensuring proper anchor points. The training area requires a 10-foot wide cleared space for shoring operations, with alternatives like using a fabricated sloped wall or a Conex box. The document provides precise guidance on equipment placement, dummy positioning, and considerations for different rescue training scenarios, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to urban search and rescue skill development.

EXEVAL Rubble Pile Design
Concrete Barrier or Similar:
Can use for lifting and hauling ops. Place on level ground and preferably clear around it. For purpose of EXEVAL, it can be placed in front of one end of the U-channel with dummy behind it.
U-Channel:
Used for breaching, breaking, and confined space ops. Must be big enough for victim, rescuer, and medic. Slab will be leaned up on end of U-channel with a dummy inside the U-channel.
Concrete Slabs:
Will need enough for multiple iterations the week of EXEVAL.
Slabs will be leaned against end of U-channel with a dummy behind it for breaching, breaking, and confined space ops. Typical size of slab we order is 5’x6’x4” with 3/8” rebar reinforcement spaced 18” on center. Can also use slab placed on dummy to cover lifting/hauling ops as well.
U-Channel sections to be place here
Slab or concrete barrier placement on ends of U-channel
Manhole can be removed to perform rope rescue (using a tripod) and confined space rescue. Dummy can be placed below the manhole cover. Will need to consider rope system anchor points. If no rated anchors are within that area, have concrete barrier placed within reasonable distance. Will need to ensure confined space trainer is not flooded.
Shoring ops can be done on the pre-existing training aid.
The fabricated sloped wall or the Conex box will suffice.
Minimum of two rakers will be placed and we will need a 10’ wide area to place them. Preferably have the surrounding area cleared. There are no windows or doors on this training apparatus, so possible alternative would be the bldg. next to confined space trainer in picture to the right.
