About this file
This document is a letter from the Institute for Energy Studies at Western Washington University, introducing the Energy Assessment Program that provides free, confidential energy assessments to manufacturing facilities with annual energy costs up to $3.5 million. The program aims to help these facilities save energy, reduce waste, and increase productivity. The assessment process involves a one-day, on-site survey conducted by a team of faculty and students, followed by a detailed report with recommendations, cost estimates, and payback periods provided within 60 days. The program is offered at no cost to eligible facilities, and a follow-up is provided six months later.
The related state and local contract opportunity is a Request for Printing Services to support the WWU Print and Copy Center, issued by the state of Washington and Whatcom County. The contract details are not provided in this document.

Dear <<recipient name>>, I am writing to introduce you to the Energy Assessment Program offered by the Institute for Energy Studies at Western Washington University, which provides confidential, no-cost energy assessments to help industries save energy, reduce waste, and increase productivity. The Energy Assessment Program works with manufacturing facilities that have annual energy costs up to $3.5 million. To date, similar energy assessments have helped participating manufacturers save over 530 trillion BTUs of energy and more than $5.6 billion in energy costs.
A typical energy assessment is a one-day, in-depth survey of a plant site and includes a thorough examination of potential savings opportunities from energy efficiency improvements, waste minimization, and improvement of productivity. The assessment begins with a small team of faculty and students specializing in energy assessments conducting a walk-through survey of the plant. The team then discusses preliminary findings with plant staff and management and gathers additional data to align their findings with the facility’s maintenance/upgrade plans. The plant visits are completely non-intrusive and do not hinder ongoing production activities in any way. Within 60 days of the plant visit, the team provides a confidential report with a detailed analysis of the recommendations that were discussed during the site visit, including estimates of costs, performance, and payback periods. Six months later, the team will follow up to see how we can be of further help. The whole process is done at no cost to you.
If you would like to know if your facility is eligible for a free assessment, please email energy.institute@wwu.edu or return the form below to the Institute for Energy Studies, ATTN: Nipun Goel, 516 High Street MS 9084, Bellingham, WA 98225. Once your eligibility has been determined, and prior to the visit, you will be asked to complete a short Plant Background Information form, sign our Confidentiality Statement, and submit a copy of your energy bills for the past twelve months. An assessment will then be scheduled for a mutually convenient day.
Sincerely, Professor Nipun Goel Program Director, Energy Assessment Program
