Q: It appears that the specifications are requesting that the hot taps utilize the following valves posted in Q and A dated 4 17 19.
It is not possible to hot tap through a butterfly valve. It will require a ball or gate. Please advise if we have mistaken the scope of the hot taps and installation of new butterfly valves on the CH water supply and return pipes?
A: My apologies. Question 11 dated 4/17/19 :
11. What size and schedule is the existing supply and return lines that we are welding the hot taps on for the hose connections and can we use a weldolet for that?
• The existing supply and return piping where the hot taps will be located is standard schedule 40, 8” black iron.
| • | *Clarification* removed (HOT): The existing supply and return piping where the taps will be located is standard schedule 40, 8” black iron. No existing valve available for a hot tap to be installed, new tap will require isolating and draining the existing 8” branch piping, cutting existing pipe and welding in fittings for 6” valves. |
| • | Yes, a weld-o-let is acceptable. |
