INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION PROGRAM
ISS PRESSURIZED VOLUME HARDWARE COMMON
INTERFACE REQUIREMENTS DOCUMENT
PREFACE
This document defines the minimum International Space Station (ISS) Requirements for Pressurized Integrated Vehicle End Items and provides requirements for incorporation in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) ISS hardware procurements and technical programs. The traceability of these requirements into International Partners pressurized requirement documents would ensure certification for integration into all non-Russian ISS modules. This document defines and controls required interfaces for compatibility with the ISS. The applicability of these requirements will depend upon the characteristics of the integrated end item as specified in each end item’s specification. The interface design requirements outlined in this document are mandatory and may not be violated unless specifically agreed upon by an approved deviation, exception, or waiver (see Appendix B for definitions, hereinafter will be called exceptions) in accordance with SSP 50834, ISS Vehicle Office Management and Hardware Development Plan and documented in that end item’s specification. This document is under the control of the Space Station Program Control Board (SSPCB). Any changes or revisions to this document will be delegated to the Vehicle Control Board (VCB) for approval.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 PURPOSE
This Interface Requirements Document (IRD) is the principle source for interface design requirements for all National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) developed non-rack hardware operating in the pressurized volume of the International Space Station (ISS). This document does not address racks. For integrated rack requirements, the user is referred to SSP 57000, Pressurized Payloads Interface Requirements Document. This document also does not address payload hardware. Payload developers are referred to SSP 57000 for payload interface design requirements. This document also does not address interfaces to the Window Observation Research Facility (WORF) (Lab window rack location). Hardware planning to interface with WORF is referred to SSP 57000, Appendix M. Hardware which meets the criteria for use of this IRD, as described above, is hence forward described as ‘integrated end item’ or ‘end item’ (see Appendix B).
This document will be complied with in order to certify an end item for integration into ISS modules. These include all United States On-orbit Segment (USOS) modules, the European Space Agency (ESA) Columbus (COL) Module and the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM). This document does not include interface requirements for the Russian modules, which can be found in SSP 50094, NASA/RSA Joint Specifications Standards Document for the ISS Russian Segment, and approval must be obtained in accordance with the processes defined in SSP 50578, International Space Station Cargo Certification Process.
This document also addresses launch requirements for integrated end items launched and passively stowed in the Progress or Soyuz launch vehicles, the H-IIB Transfer Vehicle (HTV), the Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) Dragon, and the Orbital Alliant Techsystems (ATK) Cygnus. For integrated end items launched in Progress or Soyuz that require power during the launch phase, the reader is referred to П32928-103, Requirements for International Partner Cargo Transported on Russian Progress and Soyuz Vehicles. For integrated end items launched in Dragon that require power during the launch phase, the reader is referred to SPX-00036832, CRS Dragon 1 Pressurized Cargo Interface Requirements Document. For integrated end items launched in Cygnus that require power during the launch phase, the reader is referred to 6354-GD7100, Cygnus Pressurized Cargo Module (PCM) to Internally-Carried Payload Interface Definition Document (IDD). Power is not available on any of the other launch vehicles. When available, the requirements for other commercial orbital transportation services launch vehicles will be included in this document.
For end items certified per requirements of a specific flight vehicle and ISS module, the Joint Cargo Certification Team (JCCT) may be utilized to conduct delta certifications. The JCCT functions as a multilateral cargo integrator between the hardware developer and ISS Program to assess an end item for flight on vehicles and operations on IP modules other than those for which it was originally certified. See Appendix J for an overview of JCCT products and services.
This document is not intended to address the requirements for integrated end items that are developed as a subsystem to a facility rack, only for those end items that will interface directly with ISS core systems. In the case of items developed as subsystems to a facility rack, the end item requirements will be provided by the facility rack integrator. Equipment interfacing with other ISS non-core systems must be designed to the Interface Control Document (ICD) of the interfacing system.
1.2
SCOPE
The physical, functional, and environmental design requirements associated with integrated end item safety and interface compatibility are included herein. This document does not include unique functional (performance) requirements for end items. This document does not contain requirements in the following areas because these requirements will be unique to each system: reliability (including Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) Parts requirements), maintainability, quality and logistics.
