INTRODUCTIOn purpose AND SCOPE This ICD defines and controls the implementation of the physical and functional interfaces between the United States SSMB and the JEM at assembly complete.

Precedence The design shown in this ICD is in accordance with the bilateral interface requirements established in SSP 41151, Interface Requirements Document Space Station Manned Base to Japanese Experiment Module. In the event of a conflict between this document and the Interface Requirements Document (IRD), the IRD takes precedence.

DELEGATION OF Authority The responsibility for assuring the definition, control, and implementation of the interfaces identified in this document is vested with the NASA International Space Station (ISS) Program Office and with the JAXA. This document shall be formally approved and controlled in accordance with the provisions of SSP 30459, International Space Station Alpha Interface Control Plan, and jointly signed by NASA and JAXA.

INTERFACE

General Interface Description The Space Station-to-JEM interface occurs at the JEM Pressurized Module (PM) bulkhead where the Passive Common Berthing Mechanism (PCBM) attaches to the JEM. The interface also includes the location and attachment of the grapple fixtures on the JEM elements. All other utilities interfaces occur at the JEM pressure bulkhead feedthrough. Utility interfaces include electrical power, cooling water, inter-module ventilation, N2 supply, waste water, atmosphere sampling, system bus, payload bus, Crew Health Care System (CHeCS) bus, High Rate Data Link (HRDL), audio and video. Additional interfaces exist for Extravehicular Activity (EVA), Man Systems and Experiment Logistics Module-Pressurized Section (ELM-PS) to Node-2.

The SSMB-to-JEM interfaces are shown in Figure 3.1.1-1, Space Station-to-Japanese Experiment Module Interface Description. The SSMB/JEM interface provides a pressurized passageway between the JEM and the Space Station, transmits structural loads between the JEM and Space Station, and provides connections for utilities. The JEM-PM berths to the port side radial port of Node 2. The location of the JEM in relation to the overall Space Station is shown in Figure 3.1.1-2, JEM-PM Attachment Location. A Power and Data Grapple Fixture (PDGF) is installed on the exterior of the JEM—PM and it enables the Space Station Remote Manipulator System (SSRMS) to grapple and to feed power to JEM-PM, for JEM-PM assembly and maintenance.

Grapple fixtures are mounted on the exterior of the JEM elements for use by SSRMS in JEM assembly and maintenance operations. One PDGF and one Flight Releasable Grapple Fixture (FRGF) are mounted on the JEM-PM, and two FRGFs are mounted on the JEM-Exposed Facility (EF), ELM-PS and Experiment Logistics Module-Exposed Section (ELM-ES) respectively, for use by the SSRMS and Shuttle Remote Manipulator System (SRMS). The detailed grapple fixture interfaces are defined in Paragraphs 3.8 and 3.9.

FIGURE 3.5.1.1-3 JUMPER CABLE ASSEMBLY DIAGRAM FOR NODE 2 BULKHEAD J48 TO JEM BULKHEAD J61 NOMINAL Power PERFORMANCE / POWER AVAILABILITY Each SSMB power feed is sourced by a set of DDCUs operating in parallel mode. Each parallel pair of DDCUs provides power to both JEM power feeds and to Node 2 loads. The normal source operating states for the two sources may be any combination that supports the maximum JEM power allocation.

Each power feeder has seven operating states with the following maximum power capability for each state, depending on the share ratio as shown in Table 3.5.1.1.1-1, Operating States.

Output Protection Protection means (overload and current level during connector mating/demating procedure) are provided by SSMB with a single failure tolerance to the JEM next level of protection inside the PDU.

Each SSMB source provides the following protection characteristics.

Current Limiting Each power source limits its output current within the range specified in Table 3.5.1.1.2.1–1. Each power source discontinues delivery of power after 50 to 55 milliseconds of sustained current limiting.

For states 1–5 (parallel DDCUs), each power source will transition to state 6 (single DDCU) if the total current exceeds the partial trip thresholds defined in Table 3.5.1.1.2.1–1, Current Limit and Trip, for 52.5 +/– 2.5 milliseconds.

overCurrent tripping Each JEM power source will disable its output if the total current exceeds the thresholds defined in Table 3.5.1.1.2.2–1, Overcurrent Threshold, (based on the selected operating state) for 99+/– 5 milliseconds.

For states 1–5 (parallel DDCUs), each power source will transition to state 6 (single DDCU) if the total current exceeds the partial trip thresholds defined in Table 3.5.1.1.2.2–1, Overcurrent Threshold, for 99+/–5 milliseconds.

2.Indicates only one DDCU of a parallel pair in operating above its overcurrent trip threshold.
3.The DDCU with the higher power share will current limit before the other DDCU reaches its overcurrent threshold.

over voltage protection The overvoltage protection is provided by the DDCUI(s) located upstream of the element interface. The DDCUI overvoltage trip characteristics are in accordance with SSP 30263:004, Dc-to-Dc Converter Unit Internal (DDCUI) Standard Interface Control Document, Section 3.7.2.2.2.

Return Grounding Each power feeder return will be referenced to chassis at the SSMB Node 2 source as shown in Figure 3.5.1.1-1.

Bonding The SSMB Node 2 to JEM-PM interface will be bonded by bolting the passive CBM to the JEM-PM.

Power /DATA outlets IN JEM-PM The JEM-PM provides five power/data outlets. The power/data outlets are located within the JEM-PM as shown in Figure 3.5.1.2-1, JEM-PM Utility Outlet Panel (UOP) Locations.

FIGURE 3.5.1.2-1 JEM-PM UOP LOCATIONS

Power Rating Each power outlet uses 16 American Wire Gauge (AWG) wire for the positive and return wires.

Output Protection Each power feeder outlet provides the following protection characteristics.

Overcurrent Protection The overcurrent protection is provided by 10A Remote Power Controller (RPC) located upstream of the UOP. The trip characteristics are shown in Figure 3.5.1.2.2.1-1, 10A RPC Protection Characteristics.

FIGURE 3.5.1.2.2.1-1 10A RPC Protector Characteristics Over/Under Voltage Protection The power supply to the UOP discontinues the delivery of power, if the voltage at the RPC exceeds 145Vdc (5 percent) and falls below 95Vdc (5 percent).

Ground Fault Interruption The UOP provide Ground Fault Interruption.

Fault Current Return The UOP provide a fault current return path.

secondary power returns and grounding The power line negative (return) terminal will be grounded by structural termination at the SSMB Node 2 source.

Portable equipment power input terminals will exhibit a minimum of 1 mega ohm resistance measured between either terminal and structure ground.

bonding The portable equipment to JEM interface satisfies a shock hazard bond. The shock hazard bond accommodates all fault currents and is implemented using one fault return wire in the portable equipment utility connector.

connector definition The connector pin assignments for power and data are shown in Tables 3.5.1.2.6-1 through 3.5.1.2.6-6, Power/Data Outlets in JEM-PM (Plug/Receptacle).
