SUMMARY OF WORK
08/14
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
The work to be performed under this project consists of providing the labor, equipment, and materials necessary to construct the new 64,000+ GSF Research Support Building (RSB) at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC), Cleveland, Ohio. The building will be constructed on the site of the previously demolished Building 21 on the GRC campus. The new two story steel structure contains open office areas; private offices; conference and work rooms; Training Rooms, Collaborative Engineering Rooms; collaboration work spaces with light wells; a cafeteria with supporting kitchen and dining spaces; and typical support spaces. The interiors are consistent with modern open office architecture. The exterior is clad in painted metal panels and transparent glazing curtain wall systems. Support facility construction includes, but is not limited to: the removal of existing paved surfaces; removal of certain underground utilities; site preparation;
caissons for foundation support; curbs and roadways; parking areas;
pedestrian walkways; landscaping. Supporting utilities to the site include the extension of potable water; non potable chilled water from an existing chilled water plant; high pressure steam; natural gas; sanitary and storm sewers; high voltage electrical cable through existing manhole and new underground duct bank; communications cabling through existing and new communications duct banks and manholes. Refer to each contract design drawing for specific construction requirements. This project is required to be LEED Silver Certifiable under the USGBC LEED-NC version 2009 Rating System.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
Field verify all submitted opening sizes, dimensions and tolerances;
preparation of openings includes isolating dissimilar materials from aluminum system to avoid damage by electrolysis. The installer must examine area of installation to verify readiness of site conditions and to notify the Contractor about any defects requiring correction. Verify when structural support is ready to receive all specified work and to convene a pre-installation conference, if approved by the Contracting Officer, including the Contractor, skylight installer and all parties directly affecting and affected by the specified work. Do not install any materials that show visual evidence of biological growth due to the presence of moisture. Do not commence work until conditions are satisfactory.
3.2 ERECTION
Erect skylight system in accordance with the approved shop drawings supplied by the manufacturer. Submit drawings showing fabrication details, SECTION 08 60 45 Page 6 materials, dimensions, installation methods, anchors, and relationship to adjacent construction. Fasten and seal in accordance with the manufacturer's shop drawings. Provide all staging, lifts and hoists required for the complete installation and field measuring. Install system clean of dirt, debris or staining and thoroughly examined for removal of all protective material prior to final inspection of the designated work area. Do not use snow rakes on roof windows or skylights.

Submit test reports.
3.3.1.2 Structural-Sealant Compatibility and Adhesion
Structural sealant shall be tested according to recommendations in ASTM C 1401. Destructive test method, Method A, Hand Pull Tab (Destructive) in ASTM C 1401, Appendix X2, shall be used. A minimum of one area on each skylight face shall be tested. Repair installation areas damaged by testing. Submit test reports.
3.3.1.3 Structural-Sealant Glazing Inspection
After installation of metal-framed skylights is complete, structural-sealant glazing shall be inspected and evaluated according to ASTM C 1401 recommendations for quality-control procedures. Submit reports.
3.3.2 Repair and Retesting
Repair or remove work where test results and inspections indicate that it does not comply with specified requirements. Additional testing and inspecting, at Contractor's expense, will be performed to determine compliance of replaced or additional work with specified requirements.
