About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) is for a Quickset Gimbal system to be purchased by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). The gimbal is intended to support research and classroom projects involving hyperspectral, multispectral, and high-speed remote sensing instruments, with specific requirements including a 1200 lbs minimum payload capacity, ±200° pan range, 180° tilt range, and IP67 environmental rating. The system must support multiple physics and optical engineering courses and have advanced stabilization and communication capabilities.

The vendor must deliver the gimbal within 6 weeks of contract award to AFIT at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, with full responsibility for transportation and on-site setup. Payment terms include 100% payment upon completion of requirements on a net 30 basis through Wide Area Work Flow, and the product will carry a two-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship. The gimbal's technical specifications include precise motion control, with pan and tilt speeds ranging from 0.001° to 20°/second and 0.001° to 4°/second respectively, and must be mountable on a tripod with communication interfaces including RS232/422/485 and Ethernet.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Quickset Gimbal

09 October 2025

1.0. BACKGROUND: AFIT owns over $9M in exquisite hyperspectral, multispectral, and high speed remote sensing instruments used for both classroom projects and student research.

Many of these instrument have very strict requirements for motion stability in order to collect the highest quality data. This gimbal system is designed to provide that stability as well as high precision pointing control. This system directly supports over a dozen courses in both Optical Engineering and the Applied physics program by providing a mechanism to explore the practical application of skills learned in these programs. The system also provides a unique capability to support teaching activities in a variety of AFIT's Physics and Optical engineering classes including, PHYS-542, OENG-780, OENG-651, OENG-650, OENG-533, OENG-530, OENG-647, OENG 616L, PHY521, METG-644, PHYS-799, and

PHYS-999.PHYS-542, OENG-780, OENG-651, OENG-650, OENG-533, OENG-530,

OENG-647, OENG 616L, PHY521, METG-644, PHYS-799, and PHYS-999.
