About this file

This is a comprehensive Project Manual and Technical Specification document for the Southern Utah University (SUU) Science Center Chemistry Labs Refresh project, prepared by the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management (DFCM) and MHTN Architects. The project involves a renovation of existing chemistry laboratories and preparation spaces within the Science Center, specifically targeting rooms 222, 223, and 224. The primary objectives include resizing classrooms to accommodate 24 students, replacing outdated fume hoods, updating shelving and counter spaces in the chemical prep room, and enhancing utility and safety features. Additional goals encompass providing appropriate student material storage, installing ADA-compliant seating, implementing modern teaching equipment, and executing aesthetic upgrades like new flooring and lighting.

The project is estimated to cost $950,000 and is structured as a Stage II Invitation to Bid, with participation limited to contractors pre-qualified under DFCM's Stage I Prequalification process. The technical specifications detail extensive requirements for architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and finishing work, including specific standards for materials like gypsum board, metal framing, concrete, masonry, and door hardware. The project manual includes comprehensive sections covering everything from general requirements and submittal procedures to execution and closeout, indicating a thorough and structured approach to the renovation. The document suggests a focus on precision, quality control, and adherence to specific technical and performance standards throughout the construction process.
