About this file

This is a detailed kitchen equipment specification document (Section 11 40 00) for the USAID South Sudan Engineering Support Program's Residential Compound Kitchen Renovation project. The document outlines comprehensive requirements for kitchen equipment supply and installation, including both new and existing equipment.

The specification covers 87 distinct items including walk-in coolers/freezers, sinks, preparation tables, hood systems, and various cooking equipment. Key requirements include the Kitchen Equipment Supplier (KES) being responsible for coordinating container packaging and international shipping, with all items required to be bid as an all-or-none package. The document specifies approved fabricators (including Atlanta Custom Fabricators, Titan Stainless, Advance-Tabco, John Boos & Co, and Eagle Group) and details extensive quality standards for materials and construction. Installation requirements mandate that equipment must be uncrated, assembled, set in place, and anchored by the General Contractor's designated installer, with final connections handled by separate contractors for plumbing (Division 22), electrical (Division 26), and mechanical (Division 23) work. The specification also includes detailed warranty requirements, including a standard one-year warranty on workmanship and materials, plus extended coverage for refrigeration systems including five years on sealed portions of condensing units.

2.04 METALWORK FABRICATION

A. GENERAL FABRICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Remove burrs from sheared edges of all sheet metal to eliminate cutting hazard.

Maintain flat, smooth surfaces, without damage to finish. Reinforce metal at locations of hardware and accessory attachments wherever metal is less than 14 gauge thickness, or requires mortised or recessed installation. Weld in place on concealed side of work. Reinforcements will not show on finished, exposed surfaces. Exposed screws or bolt heads, rivets, or butt joints filled with solder are not acceptable. Where fasteners are permitted, provide

Phillips head, flat or oval head machine screws. Cap threads with acorn nuts unless fully concealed and inaccessible. Provide nuts and lock washers where necessary or indicated. Match fastener material and finish with finish of metal being fastened. Where components of fabricated metal work are indicated to be galvanized or steel, and involve welding of the metal, complete the fabrication and clean all welding slag, then paint with a high-grade aluminum color, rust-preventative spray paint, such as C.H.G. #M92-

1012, or Rust-Oleum #V2185 “Hard Hat” Zinc Rich Cold Galvanizing

Spray.

B. WELDING AND SOLDERING

1. Materials 18-gauge or heavier shall be welded. Seams and joints are to be shop welded or soldered as indicated. Welds must be ground smooth and polished to match original finish. Where galvanizing has been burned off, the weld shall be cleaned and then painted with a high-grade aluminum color, rust-preventative spray paint, such as C.H.G. #M92-1012, or RustOleum #V2185 “Hard Hat” Zinc Rich Cold Galvanizing Spray.

Provide removable panels for access to mechanical and electrical service connections and components concealed inside equipment, but only where other means of access is not possible and not indicated through other work.

Where ends of equipment, rear or end splashes, shelves, etc., are open after fabrication, they are to be enclosed by forming metal and welding, adding filler sections, if necessary, to close entire opening flush to walls or adjacent fixtures or equipment.

2. Coved Corners: Stainless steel foodservice equipment shall have minimum

1/4" radius coves in horizontal and vertical corners, and intersections, and constructed to N.S.F. Standards.
