ATTACHMENT 25 PRINCIPLES OF CLA
Principles of Collaborating, Adapting and Learning (CLA) approaches in CARPE
Collaborating: Are we collaborating with the right partners at the right time to achieve our goals and promote synergy over stove-piping?
o Establishing strong coordination and collaboration mechanisms between
CARPE partners.
o Identifying the most appropriate institutions that form the backbone of biodiversity and forest conservation in central Africa, and develop capacity building plans that will help them to fulfill that role in the long term.
Learning: Are we asking the most important questions and finding answers that are relevant to decision making?
o Inventorying key CARPE reports and knowledge products such as maps, landscape gender analyses and basic necessity surveys and producing a synthesis of findings relevant to FABS.
o Establishing or revitalizing knowledge management and data sharing platforms, including an inventory of CARPE knowledge products and data.
o Assisting CARPE partners to improve monitoring, evaluation and learning plans.
o Enabling key stakeholders to visit sites (in- and out-of-country) to learn firsthand about successful approaches to sustainable biodiversity conservation and natural resource management.
Adapting: Are we using the information that we gather through collaboration and learning activities to make better decisions and make adjustments as necessary?
o Establishing adaptive management best practices throughout CARPE (e.g., pause and reflect, stakeholder engagement and periodic review of data).
o Refining and testing of the FABS TOC, identifying and generating sound evidence to test approaches to conservation and climate change mitigation supported under CARPE.
