About this file

This document contains a solicitation for dredging services and responses to bidder questions. The United States Coast Guard, Civil Engineering Unit - Providence is seeking bids to dredge the entrance channel at Coast Guard Station Eatons Neck in Northport, New York. The estimated cost of the project is between $500,000 and $1,000,000, and the period of performance is 110 days. The scope of work involves removing an estimated 9,000 cubic yards of material from the channel using mechanical dredging methods by March 24, 2023. No in-water work is permitted after March 31, 2023 due to permitting restrictions. Bids are due on January 5, 2023. Responses to bidder questions clarify that material placement via barge will not be permitted and that surveys of potential boulder obstructions were limited to hydrographic data.

DREDGE CHANNEL AT USCG STATION EATONS NECK (FY23)

NORTHPORT, NEW YORK (SUFFOLK COUNTY), PSN #14071986

RESPONSES TO RFI QUESTIONS:

Question 1 (Q1): Will the Contractor be allowed to place material in the shoreline disposal areas via bottom-dump scows during high tides, as close to shore as possible, and use land based equipment during low tides to relocate the material to its final location and grade?

Response 1 (R1): The placement of material on the beach via bottom-dump scow will not be permitted.

Q2: The specified disposal site is Beacon Farms and it appears that a hydrographic survey of the shoreside access has been conducted. However, site observation and aerials indicate that there are a lot of boulders in the water that could potentially prohibit barge access. Has a side scan or other survey been conducted to document the existing boulder limitations at this disposal site?

R2: Survey efforts for this project were limited to the October 2022 hydrographic survey provided with the project drawings. Shallow rocks observed during the hydrographic survey are included on the drawing. Side scan or other surveys have not been completed.
