TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
PROJECT SUMMARY
The proposed Fitchie Creek Trail Improvement Project consists of furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to correct drainage-related deficiencies and repair eroded sections (2,656 total linear feet) of the existing limestone hiking trail. The work is intended to restore proper trail function, improve durability, and reduce ongoing maintenance needs caused by uncontrolled surface runoff.
Current site conditions indicate that storm-water is flowing longitudinally along the trail alignment, resulting in surface erosion, rutting, and loss of limestone material. This project will address these issues through the installation of drainage and stabilization measures at designated locations throughout the corridor.
Work includes construction of grade reversals (“rolling dips”) to divert runoff off the trail surface, regrading of existing trail sections, and replacement of limestone screenings to match proposed elevations. In areas identified as soft, unstable, or heavily trafficked, the contractor shall install geogrid reinforcement and geotextile fabric to stabilize the subgrade and improve load distribution.
Turf reinforcement matting shall be installed in steep or high-use grass segments to provide additional erosion control and surface stability.
All work shall be completed in accordance with the plans and specifications, with care taken to minimize disturbance to adjacent areas and maintain trail accessibility where required. The contractor shall coordinate sequencing of work to ensure proper drainage is achieved at each location prior to final surface restoration.
These Special Provisions apply to the proposed work identified as FITCHIE CREEK FOREST PRESERVE TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS. In the event of conflict with any part of the standard specifications and requirements (see STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS below), CONTRACTOR shall coordinate with Forest Preserve District of Kane County (FPDKC) and/or PROJECT LOCAL SPONSER to determine governing specification.
