About this file
This file is an Addendum to a Request for Information (RFI) issued by Argonne National Laboratory's Procurement Department for RFI solicitation 6-S176-I--05497-00, dated February 25, 2026. The addendum addresses three clarifications submitted by offerors regarding the procurement of area radiation monitors (ARMs) for the Advanced Photon Source (APS) facility. The clarifications address system integration requirements, detection capabilities specifications, and electrical equipment inspection procedures. Specifically, ANL clarified that integration involves communication and alarm relay protocols using an existing network, that detection capabilities require energy ranges of thermal to 100 MeV for neutrons and 100 keV to 10 MeV for photons (with detection focused on accelerator-produced radiation rather than specific radionuclides), and that electrical inspections comply with National Electrical Code (NEC) NFPA 70, 2017 edition standards, validating proper grounding, connections, and legends.
This addendum is a clarification document designed to facilitate vendor responses to the RFI, which seeks information from vendors capable of sourcing, maintaining, and supporting a system of approximately 50 end-of-life ARMs that measure x-ray and neutron dose rates. Vendors were required to submit responses to Sections 1-6 of the "ANL-651 RFI for APS ARMs" document and complete the "Vendor Capability" column on the "APS-U Radiation Monitor Spec Sheet" by March 3, 2026 (or March 17, 2026 per the related opportunity description) to Molly Hunter at mollyhunter@anl.gov. The RFI is nonbinding and for planning and informational purposes only, with responses potentially containing proprietary information that should be marked as such to protect offeror confidentiality.

1) The integration into the current system requirement is confusing as the RFQ states these new units will replace the aged out versions. We need to know the specs for these current units in order to seamlessly integrate Technical Associates quoted units.
Integration into the current system is related to the communication and alarm relay protocols. We are using an existing network for communication of alarm status. See “Remote communication requirements” and “operational requirements” for integration needs.
2) We did not see any specifics regarding range or sensitivity for nuclides to be measured.
See requirements under “Detection capabilities”. Energy range for neutrons: thermal-100 MeV required. Energy range for photons: 100 keV – 10 meV required. Specific radionuclides are NOT topic of detection capabilities; this is an electron synchrotron so looking at accelerator produced radiation only.
3) Are you able to provide the requirement or testing procedure for the ANL designated electrical equipment inspection?
There isn’t a specific testing procedure, the inspection checks all electrical connections, validates that each connection is properly grounded, no exposed electrical, legends are present and consistent, and in general meet NEC (National Electrical Code) – NFPA 70, 2017 ed.
