About this file

This is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for solicitation number 6991PE25Q000001, which addresses contractor questions regarding the hauling and shaft seal replacement for two vessels - PG-616 BOOM and PG-615 DYNAMO - for the Department of Transportation Maritime Administration's Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet.

The Q&A clarifies several key details about the work requirements: the price sheet has been revised to cover both vessels; the vessels will not be serviced simultaneously (PG-615 will be delivered first, followed by PG-616 when the first boat is ready); hull cleaning and pressure washing are not required; and specific seal replacements are needed for each vessel (port side seal for PG-615 and starboard side seal for PG-616). The document notes that the PG-615's seal failed naturally while the PG-616's seal failure was caused by a wire being sucked up into it.

Questions and Answers (Q&As) Solicitation Number: 6991PE25Q000001

FOR:

PG-616 BOOM & PG-615 DYNAMO Hauling and Shaft Seal Replacement

1. Question:

Price Sheet only seems to cover enough for one boat. Shall we update to say 2 jobs?

OR Should we fill out one price sheet per boat?

Also the Price Sheet references a different SPEC number Answer: The price sheet has been revised to reflect both boats and correct the solicitation number.

2. Question:

Is the intention to have both vessels at the yard at the same time?

Answer: The intent is to have the PG-615 delivered first and when the boat is ready for pick up SBRF would deliver the PG-616.

3. Question:

There is no line item for Hull Cleaning and Inspection. Will the boats not require pressure washing and cleaning, OR should we include that in the Haul Out item?

Answer: The boats will not require pressure washing. The seal on the PG-615 failed and the seal on the PG-616 had a wire sucked up causing the seal to fail.

4. Question:

Please clarify that we would be inspecting port and starboard shafting, but only replacing the starboard side seals? At a minimum, we will need to remove the propellers in order to inspect the bearing clearances.

Answer: The PG-615 shall only have the Port side seal addressed. The PG-616 shall only have the Starboard side seal addressed.
