Questions and Answers during Advertisement for RFPs:
MATOC, California Road & Bridge Construction, Volumes I, II, and III
October 3, 2023
Questions Response 1 Each proposal calls for it to be replaced with a new steel manufactured bridge. Can you provide the manufacturer's name, number and address, also the design and plans of the bridge?
The bridges are fabricator‐designed and furnished. Provide modular steel girder with structural steel decking, and steel vehicular railing as shown in the plans. See Section 555 of the SCRs for additional requirements
2 Can you provide the plans and details for the concrete abutment?
The abutment details are included in the provided plans. Based on the contractor/fabricator design pre‐fabricated steel bridge, final dimensions and elevations would be coordinated with the bridge manufacturer before ordering materials.
3 The existing bridge to be maintained or are they to be replaced with a new steel bridge?
Both the Alder Creek Bridge and Powderhorn Bridge projects are full bridge replacements. Remove existing bridge elements as indicated in the plans and SCRs. Superstructure elements were completely damaged by fire and previously removed.
4 Can you provide plans for the manufactured steel bridge for each of the Task Order Proposals?
The bridges are fabricator‐designed and furnished. Provide modular steel girder with structural steel decking, and steel vehicular railing as shown in the plans. See Section 555 of the SCRs for additional requirements.
5 Can you provide the name of the manufacturer for each of the bridges for each of the Task Order Proposals?
See response to #4
6 Will requested resumes be excluded from the page count? Yes. See Volume I, 6982AF23R000006 (Base Contract), page A‐10, for what is allowed to not count towards the 20 page limit. Bidders Information pages are not counted in the 20 page limit. See Bidders Information, page B‐2, #7, b.
7 The embankment quantities provided on Sheet B3‐ Grading Summary appears substantially short of what is needed to construct approach fills into the abutments. With only 65 cy being shown, it appears that over 500 cy will be needed to complete the fills. There is only 202 cy of available excavation material. This would required material to be imported to the site. Can you please verify the required embankment quantities?
A review of the earthwork has been conducted. Please bid according to the quantities shown in the plans. Also, note the original ground topographical verification requirements listed in Subsection 152.05 of the SCRS. Adjustments to earthwork quantities may be provided after verifications are completed.

8 (Powderhorn) The Typical Section on Drawing No. RG3277‐H (Bridge Drawing 8 of 11) shows a maximum depth from the top of pavement to the bottom of girder as 2’6”. The bridge fabricators have advised that W30 girders must be used resulting in a depth of 2’‐10”. Please advise.
Submit per the plan requirements.
